The Chicago Treasurer’s Office is recognizing Principal Starlet Banks at the upcoming Chicago Star Award: Honoring Women in Leadership event!

Hosts Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and Alderwoman Stephanie Coleman will be highlighting Principal Banks alongside other standout Chicago leaders.

With over two decades in CPS, Principal Banks never stops working for our school. Whether she’s advocating for our students, lifting up our staff, engaging with families, or building strong community ties, her impact is everywhere.

Ms. Cheryl Burton, I truly don’t have the words to express what your support means to me. 🫶🏽 Growing up watching you as a news anchor on ABC 7, seeing a Black woman excel in media, and knowing we both proudly call ourselves Lindblom Eagles, made you someone I have looked up to for as long as I can remember. Receiving your scholarship at my high school graduation was one of the first moments that affirmed my dream of pursuing film, and your belief in me has stayed with me ever since! Seeing you moments after I introduced First Lady Michelle Obama at the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening was incredibly emotional. That speech was for every Black woman on the South Side of Chicago, and you embody everything I hoped to represent: excellence, grace, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to giving back!!👏🏽 Thank you for believing in me and helping me soar right as I left the nest🤗🦅. It means the world that you were there to witness that full-circle moment. I hope I made you proud. 🥹❤️ @cherylburtonabc7

“Swoop for me one time!” The Class of 2026 has given our community much to celebrate.

“SW26P, SW26P!” Our graduates earned 1,082 early college credits, generating $169,874 in tuition savings for families. Even more notably, 55% of our graduates earned one or more college credits while still in high school, significantly surpassing the district average of 32%.

These outcomes are about more than numbers. They represent students who embraced rigor, families who encouraged persistence, and educators who continuously challenged and supported students to reach new levels of excellence. “Swoop, swoop, swoop! Aye!”

We extend special appreciation to the teachers who expanded access by becoming adjunct City Colleges professors, allowing more of our students to engage in college-level learning experiences while at Lindblom MSA. Their commitment reflects our belief that access and opportunity should never be limited by circumstance.

Today, a few students had the opportunity to sit at the table with Deputy Commissioner Kathy Cullick from the Mayor’s Office.

This was a powerful conversation about girlhood, leadership, public service, and making a space for yourself at the table.
