Fun Fact Thursday: Schioppettino 🍷
Also known as Ribolla Nera, Schioppettino is one of Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s most distinctive native red grapes. Its name is thought to come from scoppiettare—“to crackle,” “pop,” or “burst”—possibly referring to the grape’s crunchy berries or the slight fizz once found in young wines.
This expression from Bastianich delivers deep ruby color, wild berries, black cherry, plum, violet, to***co, spice, and the grape’s signature black-pepper character. Firm tannins and bright acidity give it structure, freshness, and excellent food-pairing potential.
Perfect with grilled meats, lamb, wild game, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses.
Have you ever tasted Schioppettino?

🍷 FUN FACT THURSDAY: SUSUMANIELLO 🍷
One of Puglia's most intriguing native grapes, Susumaniello was nearly lost to history. Today, it has become one of Southern Italy's most exciting wine discoveries.
Its name comes from the local dialect word for "little donkey" because young vines produce such abundant fruit that they were said to carry a heavy load like a donkey.
This beautiful Susumaniello from Masseria Li Veli in Salento offers aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry, and Mediterranean herbs, with a rich, velvety palate and a long, savory finish.
A true expression of Puglia's sun-drenched terroir and a perfect companion to grilled meats, handmade pasta, and authentic Italian cuisine.
Join us at Macello and discover one of Italy's hidden gems, one glass at a time.
