Congratulations to the Sullivan Safe Passage team, who celebrated the end of the school year last week! This student-led rapid response network incorporates community members, students and school staff to keep students safe. Our ONE Northside youth leaders were key to developing this network, and are working now on sharing this model at high schools across the North Side, to develop youth leadership and center youth safety!

This week faith leaders from ONE Northside’s clergy table traveled with us to Springfield to meet with legislators as the budget session reaches crunch time! They went from office to office in the capitol building to speak with our elected leaders and offered prayers for them. We know that budgets are a moral document - what do we prioritize, families, schools, the poor, strong communities? Or profits for billionaires, big tech, big polluters? For us the choice is clear. You can send a message to your state leaders right now through the form at bit.ly/onstaxthe rich or the link in our bio. Time is running out! The budget will be finalized THIS WEEKEND!

Take action now to prevent cuts to housing!

Cuts for families. Tax breaks for billionaires. That's the reality after Trump's $9 billion tax giveaway to Illinois' wealthiest residents. Meanwhile, families across Illinois are struggling with rising housing costs.

It doesn't have to be this way. We can Trump-proof IL from his attacks on housing, and our state legislators are making decisions that will affect families across the state right now! Send an email to your Illinois legislator today, urging them to vote YES on making corporations and billionaires pay their fair share so Illinois can invest in the healthcare, education, and childcare our communities depend on.

We collected hundreds of postcards over the last few months from Northside residents with their demands for their legislators: tax the rich, not working families, and use that revenue to fund housing, violence prevention, education programs, senior services, and so many other services we need! We could raise $4 billion in progressive revenue if the ultra-rich and big corporations paid their fair share. Imagine all we could do with $4 billion! Today was our day of action in Springfield! We went to make some noise for our communities facing the brunt of of Trump’s cruel cuts. Trump gave Illinois billionaires a $9 BILLION tax break while families are losing healthcare, SNAP, and school funding.

Meanwhile, our communities are being told there’s “not enough money.”

There IS enough money — if lawmakers make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Illinois can fully fund healthcare, education, childcare, and more for every community. But legislators need to act NOW.

Is your legislator voting YES to make them pay?

We are in the last week of the IL legislative session, when our elected leaders will make a budget for the year that funds so many things we rely on. We are demanding a budget that puts people over profits for big corporations and billionaires and NO CUTS to the services we need! We went to Rep. Croke’s office last week to ask for a fair budget, and tomorrow we will be in Springfield! Email your own rep today at bit.ly/onstaxtherich or the link in our bio
