Little Mister Has a New Home!
For 9 years, Little Mister was coddled and cuddled by a lovely owner who adopted him as a kitten and appreciated his very affectionate, yet slow-to-warm temperament. When his owner passed, the Unity Hospice Foundation’s Pet Peace of Mind Program and its partners at Animal Care League (ACL) were able to quickly get him into care and ready for foster or adoption. He was well taken care of at ACL, but very fearful - hiding in his cat tree for much of the day. Because his comfort and eating were affected, the vet team decided they should get him into a foster placement rather than waiting for adoption.

That same day, a woman came in with her granddaughter, who was very passionate about animals and excited about her grandmother adopting a cat. Her granddaughter immediately got attached to Little Mister and his story and was able to get him to open up a bit. The grandmother, who had always called her son “little mister” when he was young, felt the pull of fate, and despite her reservations, decided to try fostering him.
After 3 days in her home, Little Mister began showing his true colors as a cuddle bug. The foster-to-adopter had to adjust to her new adoring companion, and she reports that now he follows her everywhere, winding through her legs and making biscuits on her lap. The experience inspired her to become an ACL volunteer as well!

Thanks to our partnership with the ACL, Unity Hospice Foundation’s Pet Peace of Mind program had another success!

"Too young, too many people left behind, and honestly just too much pain and suffering.

Beth shares: I am grateful the foundation exists to help, even in a small way, during moments like these. She's leaves behind four sons and a daughter. I never met the daughter, but watching her boys care for their other was unforgettable= so gentle, loving and devoted, doing everything they could to ease her pain and bring her comfort.

Moments like this are why wishes matter.

This is so special! This is why we do what we do- helping loved ones at the end of their life and supporting their wishes. Thank you for the donation to the foundation so we can continue helping others.

Nourishing Dignity: An Urgent Call

Beginning November 1, 2025, the loss of federal SNAP benefits is anticipated to leave many of our hospice patients without the food support they rely on every day. These individuals and families are already facing the physical and emotional challenges of serious illness — people who should never have to worry about their next meal in their last days.

At Unity Hospice and Palliative Care, our mission has always been to walk beside our patients and support them in any way we can to ensure ease and comfort at end of life. If SNAP benefits are unavailable, many of our patients will lose access to healthy meals and basic nutrition just when they need it most.

We are launching the Nourishing Dignity Fund to fill that gap — to ensure that every patient under our care can have access to wholesome food. Your gift will help us provide grocery gift cards or delivered meals to patients who have lost SNAP resources.
Even a modest contribution makes an immediate impact:

No one should face hunger in their final months. Together, we can uphold the dignity and comfort that every person deserves in this difficult time.
Please join us in this urgent effort.

Donate today to the Nourishing Dignity Fund and help ensure that no hospice patient in our care bears the burden of concern and anxiety about meeting this very basic human need.

At Unity Hospice, we care for our patients and families and we believe our family includes our beloved pets. The Pet Peace of Mind Program has Volunteers that walk dogs, feed pets, change cat litter, play with pets, change the paper for Guinea pigs, whatever it takes. The organization also will drive pets to boarding, grooming or veterinary visits. And will even help to help to re-home pets if that is needed. Watch this awesome radio interview and reach out if you would like to volunteer!

“ This is the best day of my life!” Says a Unity Hospice patient while watching her all time favorite band, The Rolling stones. Thanks to Unity Hospice Foundation, the staff was able to come together and hire a Rolling Stones impersonator to perform for her for her last wish. What a joy!

SPOTLIGHT: Thank you Vera for directing your wedding registry to Unity Hospice Foundation. Her friends and family came together and donated hundreds of dollars to the foundation to help patients and families. Vera has loved working for hospice because “it’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to walk into a bad situation and do something to make it a little better.” She is proud to work for a hospice that takes patients with every insurance or no insurance, one that treats patients like people instead of numbers. WAY TO GO VERA and THANK YOU.
