This project was a lot of fun with multiple opportunities for window and brick sign painting that combined elements of mid-century design with some hints of mysticism. Working with Kayla and Erick was a joy and we’re super excited for them and their new space. Go check it out and keep a look out for their grand opening party!

Lots of glass gilding for Gino and Marty at ! We just finished up 9 windows and 2 doors, all with a 23k gold mirror finish.

It was great working with the good folks here, and learning about the deep Chicago history woven into their operation. Thanks for having us, and we’ll see y’all again soon! 🤌🔥

Signpainting for first ever brick and mortar store at ! This project was super fun, and it was exciting to see a retail space that promotes longevity and functional repair. If it’s broke, fix it!

For this part of the store design, we decided to go for a mix of hand lettering, illustration, and screen printed body copy. For the screen printing, we wanted to keep a clean aesthetic, and didn’t want to compromise on the handmade craft of our work. The illustrations interconnect the theme of grassroots which begins in our vestibule artwork (see previous post!).

4 of the column boards outline the two grantees of the Chicago store, and , another board is for upcoming events, and the final is to highlight all the amazing artists we got to work alongside.

This was a really fun one, and we appreciate the freedom to be creative and play with ideas. Below is our Artist statement for the vestibule mural, and themes we wove through the store. More to come soon!

"Title: Rooted in Movement

This piece honors the connection between the grassroots beneath our feet and tending to the environmental activism movements in the communities where we are planted. This work and the story throughout the space was created to celebrate and highlight the important work of the Chicago Patagonia community and their local grantees. The roots form and emerge from the CTA tracks that loop around the city, from the Patagonia Fitz Roy skyline, as well from the skyline of the city of Chicago, suggesting that we are all interconnected and stronger together in the business of healing the planet. 

This story and artwork was created and painted by Ash Stewack and Alec Ozawa of Fire Signs Chicago."
