Exploration of the Abakuan society. founded in havana in the 19th century, the Abacuá secret society is an exclusively male brotherhood whose mythology and rituals were imported by slaves from the region of old Calabar (between Nigeria and Cameroon) . in the founding myth of Abakua beliefs there is a woman named Sikán who, by seizing the supernatural powers of a fish, would have betrayed her tribe and thus banished, would then have signed the total exclusion of women from Abakuá society. it is Sikán that Belkis Ayón represents here.
