Story Club
Chicago's premier open mic for stories. The goal of Story Club is to mix the spontaneity of an open mic with the experience of live theater. You tell us a story.
We create a forum for writers/performers to display their nonfiction storytelling prowess, read from the page or memorized. We give you a mic and 5-8 minutes. The North Side show is held the first Thursday of every month in the back room of Holiday Club Uptown, 4000 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60613. The South Side show is held on the third Tuesday of every month at the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport.

Ridiculously freaking excited (and, you know, also sad…but mostly excited😅) that the final performance of “LIVE! N**E! COMPLICATED! GRIEF!” at the 2023 National Women's Theatre Festival is TONIGHT.
If you are near Raleigh, you can come in person, and if you want to view the livestream, performance, you can get those tix and you’ll have 48 hours to view!).
One of my favorite responses was from a Gen Z theatre artist, who told me:
“I had so much fun at your show! That feels weird to say. Was I supposed to have fun? Because it was really sad, but also really fun!”
So…come feel weird about having so much fun?😇

Huge shoutouts to Chantal Pavageaux and Johannah Maynard Edwards for their brains, encouragement, and overall sparkles.🌈✨

Story Club South Side’s 3/16 and North Side’s 4/02 shows are canceled, b/c we ❤️ community health!
03/12/2020
To our Story Club South Side community: After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel this month’s show set for Monday, March 16. Given the current concerns about COVID-19, we want to make sure we’re doing what we can to help folks protect their health.
We will rebook our Chicago Stories show with Jessica Bell, Ryan Haynes, and Olivia Scheidler for later this year, so please watch for that announcement! We hope to see you all at our next show on Monday, April 20 at Bernice’s Tavern.
Take care!

Whether you love or hate residing here, or your feelings change as often as our infamous weather, please join us at Bernice's Tavern on Monday, March 16 for an evening of stories that could only take place in the Windy City. Our awesome lineup of featured storytellers includes Ryan Haynes, Olivia Scheidler, and Jessica Bell, and we'll also have open mic slots for YOU!

A murderous machine, a Phantom-style lover, and the world’s most sought-after salad bar…Story Club North Side: The Beast Inside burst out from its lair.
Our features sounded their barbaric yawps:
Duo Yang unveiled the math and meaning behind “all you can eat” and what America really has to offer; JW Basilo tore up the ways we convince ourselves we’re not who we are…until we can’t anymore; and Annalise Raziq trumpeted a lifesaving truth, much to the chagrin of her favorite person.
Our open mic-ers roared into the night:
Lisa Henderson stumbled into some green, sloppy, love at first sight, with a little white lie; Victoria Montalbano discovered exactly who she didn’t want to be with behind a heavy theatre curtain; and Abe Raziq let out a little bit more than he planned in front of some former students, no thanks to a world of dehydrated meats.
North Side host Stephanie Douglass revived a stranger’s truck while trying to save a desperate mansplainer, and we raised our second month of donations for Sunrise Movement, building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.
Big thanks to Hungry Brain, to Shannon for keeping the glasses filled, to Spencer for sound and door, and Golden Joe DeCeault for recording.
We’ll see you on April 2nd back at the Hungry Brain for Story Club North Side.
(And if you don’t want to wait a whole month, Story Club South Side is coming up at Bernice’s on March 16th!)
