Matt, our Principal Designer, is a man of many talents. On top of everything he does for Wonderstruct from our Chicago office, Matt is a seasoned runner with 15 marathons to his name. He's dreamed of racing the Boston Marathon since 2006, when he conquered his first marathon on the streets of Chicago. Now he's finally off to live that dream at the 127th Boston Marathon on April 17 (a rare Monday race). Join us in cheering him on as he runs wearing bib 9124!

It's been about four years since Wonderstruct began, and we've grown times eight! Time to renovate. Our brand and everything it touches will be given a whole new look. In designer speak, we're at 90% documents. In contractor speak, we've topped out and some finishes touched ground. We're excited to show you Phase 1: Wonderstruct's new brand and social media templates.

Stay tuned for Phase 2: Wonderstruct's new website. Can't wait to showcase our fresh look that reflects the work we do for all of you.

Congratulations to Wonderstruct's very own Crayden Dalvit! Crayden was recently promoted to Senior Project Coordinator. In this role, he will begin managing client accounts and playing a more active part in creating designs. He's been a big part of our team for the past two years, starting as an intern while in school, to coming on full-time this past year. Clients regularly compliment his attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to get it done. Crayden also proved he's our top team skier in a recent company ski outing. Congratulations Crayden! We're lucky to have you!

Happy MLK! Infrastructure throughout the country recognizes the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., including iconic buildings, and more recognizably, influential streets. With Chicago adopting the first commemorative street named after Dr. King, almost 1,000 streets all over the country have since adopted his name. In 2007, Matthew L. Mitchelson, Derek H. Alderman, and E. Jeffrey Popke, conducted a study that assessed the non-residential business economy of the streets carrying Dr. King’s name. The conclusions of the study challenged negative stereotypes often associated with these crucial arteries, as the revenue and jobs provided aligned with other commercial strips like Main Streets and streets named after President John F. Kennedy. The complete study can be found in the 2007 Social Science Quarterly, Volume 88, No. 1.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month! Prior to the arrival of Europeans to North America, there were over 1,000 Native American civilizations in what is now the United States. Native Americans built incredible cities and structures, such as the Cahokia Mounds in what is now southern Illinois, and the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings in what is now southwestern Colorado. We here at Wonderstruct honor the Native Americans who were the original architects, engineers, construction masters, and designers of North America. We're grateful for the Native Americans of today who continue that incredible legacy in the AEC and infrastructure industries. To support Native Americans in these industries, check out organizations like Native American Contractors Association, American Indian Science and Engineering Society, and American Indian Council of Architects and Engineers.
