To clear up the rumors: yes, Oprah's announcement that she is cancelling her show is mainly due to our appearance on yesterday's episode. We can only assume that, having reached the pinnacle of broadcast excellence, she found herself with nothing left to achieve, and thus is hanging up the microphone. "Sorry" to all the O-philes...

One space or two after a period? In the computer age, one space is correct. In days of yore, printing presses and typewriters used letters that were all the same width. Two spaces helped to define a new sentence. Today, the two-space rule is dead. Computers compensate for the varying widths -- an "m" is no longer as wide as an "i". Proportional fonts render two spaces unnecessary. (
