Set up one of my tables for the first time since I moved to Chicago - 4 years, still got it! The faders open, yes because I Iโ€™m holding my phone, but more importantly because my muscle memory always wants to transform and use the fader to create patterns rather than use the scratch, so I need to do the opposite.

I never practiced specific scratches like chirps, flares, with the exception of when Qbert showed me how the tear scratch in 2001. So I still go back to that today because obviously wow, inspiring and how cool is that?!

I got pulled in so many different directions after that, both musically and life; had my son the following year and didnโ€™t have the dedicated drive for turntablism when I took on promoting full time. But I forget to celebrate - or even show - that I have a bit of this ability.

Iโ€™ve been asked by newer Chicago friends if I play vinyl, so for anyone else whoโ€™s wondering โ€” yes ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Last night I was DJ, promoter and booking agent, bringing together artists who ARE the culture, for a party in one of the most meaningful venues in house music, personally and globally. And it went off.

I had a moment of realization likeโ€ฆ Holy f**k.

This is Being A.part ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Also.. No make up barely brushed hair is my small way of being vulnerable & rebelling against the pressures of aging, image & what social media is making us all doโ€ฆ while still doing what social media is making us do ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Love on each other, kick ass out there and take care. Have a great holiday weekend!

Man.. we are that age where great creatives are going to keep passing on. RIP.

Philipp Jung, the German DJ and producer, has passed away. He was the co-founder of the Get Physical Music label and one-half of the M.A.N.D.Y duo. The cause of his death has not been disclosed yet.

Before stepping into the artist spotlight, Jung sharpened his ear for talent during the 1990s, working in major label A&R roles. In 2002, looking for absolute creative freedom, he relocated to Berlin and co-founded Get Physical Music alongside Patrick Bodmer, DJ T., and Booka Shade.

The imprint quickly exploded into an international powerhouse, earning DJ Magazineโ€™s โ€˜Label of the Yearโ€™ in 2005 by championing a versatile, song-oriented tech-house sound that bridged the gap between underground clubs and home listening. Jung also helped steer the creative direction of its sister label, Kindisch, dedicated to deeper, more hypnotic late-night atmospheres.

As a performer and creator, Jung was best known as one-half of the iconic duo M.A.N.D.Y. alongside Patrick Bodmer. Together, they came to define the mid-2000s electronic scene with massive, genre-crossing club anthems like โ€˜Toniteโ€™ and their legendary collaboration with Booka Shade, โ€˜Body Language.โ€™

In recent years, after decades of intense international touring, Jung has balanced his legacy with fresh creative outlets.

While continuing to celebrate Get Physicalโ€™s deep catalog through retrospective curation projects, he has also launched Metaphysical, a newer, album-focused imprint that allowed him to explore melodic indie-dance, ambient soundscapes, and alternative instrumentation outside traditional club structures.

Electronic Groove recently sat with him to talk about his latest project, โ€˜Rewind Forward Vol. 1,โ€™ his move to Costa Rica, and preparations to soon be a father.

We send our deepest condolences to his family, the team, and partners, as we considered him a close friend and electronic music pioneer. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

Question for pro DJs :: It was pointed out to me that my bio doesn't say anything about my sound, only how I got here, my why for doing music and what I've done. I think words really fail at describing the sonic nuances in a way that differentiates from the million other DJ bios out there. But it's valid that people value reading that part if they've never heard the dj.
