Personal Transformation Story
When I decided to leave BTY a year ago, I was looking for something and had that feeling and question, that I think a lot of people have “why don’t I ever feel like I’m enough?”
So, I made a bold decision. Left the gym, moved to California then Austin, started a new company, and switched my training to men’s physique. The results:
Dialed my nutrition in more than ever.
Training became less and less fun.
Got leaner than I’ve ever been in my life.
Won 1st place in 2 of my 3 shows.
Didn’t love California or Austin, moved back to Chicago.
In seeking the “why don’t I ever feel like enough?” Didn’t change because I was focusing on the wrong things. When the outcome of training is just for low bodyfat and vanity, you have to acknowledge a few things:
You’re going to get weaker
You have to deprive yourself of calories for energy
You’re going to feel tired all the time
The perks, sometimes if you’re outside with your shirt off, someone will tell you “nice abs” but more often than that, they’ll say “eat a donut!” And unless you’re on a lot of drugs, you’ll just feel really skinny with your clothes on.
Where am I going with this?
When I’m most fulfilled in my training, I’m doing it for my health, strength, and athleticism. So I can do MORE things. So I have MORE energy.
This is why I created the STRONG ATHLETE program. This is what I love. Getting stronger and being more athletic. Being able to do more things outside of the gym. And feeling that way with my shirt on or off.

Do you know your blood work?
In order to put the most bulletproof plan together, I wanted to add another very valuable layer to our programs, blood work.

Thank You!
I want to express the amount of gratitude I have for this community that I’ve been fortunate to be a part of for the last 6+ years. Chicago has been my home since 2007 and BTY since 2016. So many amazing people have crossed my path, and have allowed me to grow into this new path. I will always have a special place for this community and have been blessed to have seen so much growth and development in and out of the BTY doors.
As Amira and I move into our next chapter in California, I’ll be continuing the BTY program and West Loop location as I head into building more transformations and continuing this work.
Bench Press
While the bench press is performed to be an upper body developer, it requires full body stability. When setting up all non moving pieces of the body should first be locked into place.
3 Ways to Improve your Strict Press
Having the proper set-up before beginning the lift is key. Although the strict press is an upper body lift, it requires all the non-moving parts to be engaged. Legs through the core should stay as rigid as possible.
Bar set-up and upper body engagement will make you more efficient on the lift as well as decreasing your likelihood of injury.
Back Squat Tips
There a many subtleties of how you can optimize your squat. Here are just a few.
Always start with your feet and foot position. Your feet are your base, so start with a strong position and start working up from there.
Make sure you have a stiff and rigid upper body. Any tension you let out of your upper body throughout the lift is going to expose you to an increased likelihood of injury. Be short and thick through the entire upper body!
As you descend through the movement, always keep your knees tracking over your feet, and shoot to get as much of your hamstrings covering your calves in the bottom…as long as you are maintaining your upper body.
