Day one was a good send in Taranto till it wasn’t.

Ich glaub mein Schwein pfeift, Great start to a brand new team. Plenty of gains to be made.

An absolute honour to join with these old bastards, who are true kiwi legends and absolutely punishing themselves, swimming, running and biking from Cape Reinga to Parliament, raising awareness and funds for who are working to create positive cultural changes in the way we approach mental health with our whanau and youth of New Zealand as well as counselling for those who need it. In the day I’ve spent with the lads and I’ve learnt to truely help people who are struggling. We, ourselves need to show that we are vulnerable and have days where we struggle and that is normal. If our kids see us put up a front to shelter them, we are not openly teaching them to express themselves and that’s the last thing we should want.

Finally got the trampoline back together after it blew down the gully. Not sure who gets more use out of it. . . l

What can I say…. I’m gutted it has come to this but our hand has been forced. It’s not in a firefighters nature to stand aside and not turn out when we are called to help. But after 15 months of negotiations we are still at an impasse. We are walking off the job for one hour 11am- 12 am 19th and 26th August. We are asking for relevant pay, but most of all we want reliable equipment and training, and recognition and support for our physical and mental Health. I love my job but as frontline staff we are completely over looked and undervalued. As things stand I am not doing right by my family working over 60hours most weeks just to keep the trucks on the run. Something has to change. Thank you to everyone who supports us and hopefully the people with the power to fix this look past their egos and take this seriously
