Liberation Library is a volunteer-based group in Chicago that provides books to youth in prison to encourage imagination, self-determination and connection to the outside worlds of their choosing. We believe books and relationships empower young people to change the criminal justice system. We currently partner with all five Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice's facilities: IYC Harrisburg, IYC

We decided to extend the deadline to join Lib Libâs steering committee! Liberation Library is looking to recruit additional members to our Steering Committee (SC)! Join us in building meaningful solidarity with incarcerated young people across Illinois. People with various levels of experience & backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Lib Libâs SC is a group of non-hierarchical volunteers who are accountable to our mission and responsible for steering our operations, fundraising & finances, & larger abolitionist strategy as well as liaising with our partners and supporting all committee work.Â

President Trump has said he wants to end the Pretrial Fairness Act and bring back money bail in Illinois. We are asking people from across the state to call on their legislators and Governor Pritzker to defend this historic victory from the Trump administrationâs lies.
For decades, the size of a personâs bank account was the main factor determining who was jailed and who returned to the community while awaiting trial and presumed innocent. The money bond system caused countless people to lose their jobs, housing, and even custody of their childrenânot because they had been found to be a danger but simply because they couldnât afford to purchase their freedom while awaiting trial.
