Residents of a Macomb County nursing home went on a field trip Monday to a local dispensary as part of a wellness program designed to educate seniors about legal cannabis products, including both CBD and THC options for pain relief and relaxation. Staff said the residents were curious and engaged, asking questions about gummies, tinctures, and other infused snacks while employees explained proper use and safety. Several residents were clearly enjoying themselves, laughing and joking as they explored, and one staff member said the energy in the store was ten times better than their last trip to the zoo. Harold ‘Hal’ Jenkins, 92, said, “About 20 minutes after I had an edible, I couldn’t feel my legs… then I realized I was sitting in a wheelchair!” Pete Mayweather, 87, added, “I haven’t coughed this hard since my physical in 1968,” and Ruthie Patterson, 91, joked, “I bought a v**e. I asked my nephew to teach me, but he just laughed and said, ‘Grandma, this isn’t a remote control.’” After returning to the center, the residents spent the evening sharing stories and laughing about the visit, and by bedtime, staff said everyone slept soundly through the night, exhausted but happy from the adventure.
