UCAN continues to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month by promoting wellness, connection, and community across our organization. 💚

As the month continues, we invite our community to join us for an upcoming Facebook Live discussion:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at UCAN, mental health awareness is part of the work we do every day. We care for our clients, support our community, and uplift one another.
This month, UCAN staff are caring for both mind and body through our Smoothie Bar on May 14, Salad Bar on May 21 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week from May 25 to May 29, and a Facebook Live session on May 26 at 5:00 PM.
The Facebook Live, Understanding Youth Mental Health: Early Signs, Stress, Anxiety, and How to Support Your Child, will feature Dr. Randy S. Sadler, UCAN’s Senior Vice President of Therapeutic and Clinical Services, helping parents and caregivers better recognize warning signs, understand youth stressors, support conversations at home, and know when to seek help.
Alongside the BHS leadership team, UCAN continues to elevate mental health through counseling, crisis response, school-based support, partnerships, and a growing continuum of care.
Healing is not linear, but it does not have to be done alone. 💚

UCAN was front and center with our peers and partners in Springfield on May 14 for the Community Violence Intervention Advocacy Day & Rally. The focus? Connect with state legislators in the state capitol to advocate that they "Protect Progress" with continued funding of proven public safety initiatives.
Mix a late morning rally with team UCAN's meetings with elected officials including Rep. Yolonda Morris, Rep. La Shawn Ford and Rep. Nabeela Syed and we were excited to join the critical collective effort to share moving and telling evidence of how CVI work protects and saves lives everywhere.

Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to all those who inspire, support, and care for us and our community. 💚
UCAN was thrilled to support Senator Lakesia Collins' Mother's Day Block Party for a sixth year in a row! After proudly hosting for five years, the celebration outgrew our North Lawndale campus and was held at Douglass Park on Saturday, May 9th.
This incredible event brought together over 100 community partners to honor mothers and female caregivers and uplift families. Featuring kids activities, giveaways, small businesses, health and wellness vendors, and free household items, the abundance of the West Side and its connectedness was on full display.
UCAN CEO Christa Hamilton shared our continued support and also greeted elected leaders celebrating alongside State Senator Lakesia Collins, including Mayor Brandon Johnson Chicago Mayor's Office, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, Senate President Don Harmon, and Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Mariyana Spyropoulos.
