The new outdoor pavilion at the Lake Villa District Library is complete!

What started as a platform and storage room has become a fully realized outdoor space, with structural steel supporting the soaring roofline and amenities designed for seating, gathering and programming. The pavilion gives the library a whole new dimension for outdoor events and community connection.

Lake Villa District Library

“Form follows function” gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean for how a building gets designed? Swipe through for how we think about it on every project!

This week marked the official ribbon cutting for the newly restored plaza at Wheaton Public Library’s west main entrance! Studio GC reimagined this 2,500 sq. ft. space, replacing aging hardscape and stairs with an expanded upper plaza built for community life.

The new space will host art and cultural performances, children’s programs, outdoor shows, and everyday moments of connection, all just steps from Adams Park. Integrated sound, lighting, and a shade structure keep it functional year-round.

Progress update for Hodgkins Public Library!

Construction is moving forward on the new 11,000 sq. ft. Hodgkins Public Library, and we’re really starting to see this space come to life.

The layout is designed around how the community will actually use it: dedicated spaces for youth programming to give kids and teens a place that’s truly their own, quiet study areas for focused reading and work, and flexible community gathering spaces built to adapt to whatever the community needs.

Progress continues at the Aurora Public Library - Eola Road Branch!

Studio GC partnered with the District on a Space Planning/Visioning exercise that grew into a full master plan, guiding a series of improvements designed to keep the library running for the community throughout construction.

Once complete, the project’s 6,000 sq. ft. addition and 34,000 sq. ft. renovation will bring expanded programming spaces, an enhanced teen room, additional study rooms, and new outdoor spaces to the branch.

What began as a required accessibility update at the entry became an opportunity to reimagine how patrons experience the library from the moment they walk in. Studio GC partnered with the District to design a space that improves wayfinding, increases visibility to the Marketplace, and creates a stronger connection to the community it serves, bringing a renewed sense of joy and connection to every visit.
