Devices 4 the Disabled was founded by Ed Kane, who is in the late stages of ALS.

Devices 4 the Disabled empowers people with disabilities to thrive with mobility, independence, freedom, and dignity by collecting, refurbishing, and distributing medical equipment at no cost. When Ed was first diagnosed he had to pay $30,000 for a complex wheelchair out of his savings because his insurance wouldn't cover the cost and he couldn't wait for Medicare to help. He wants to save other disabled people from long waits for the equipment they need, and from high costs.

It takes a team. 💙

When people face barriers to mobility, it takes a community working together to help them move forward. We're grateful for partners like Patty from Rush University, who helps connect individuals experiencing homelessness with the equipment and support they need to regain independence and dignity.

Thank you, Patty, for being part of the D4D team and helping make mobility possible for more people every day.

⚽ World Cup ready. 💚

Luis, a huge soccer fan, couldn't stop smiling when he saw his bright green wheelchair. Now he's ready to cheer on in style from a chair that's a perfect match for his favorite team.

That's what we call a game changer!

"This is such a big help." 💙

That's why we're here. A little less worry, a little more support, and a lot more smiles. Happy Friday from Carter, his mom Carolyn, and D4D!

Lisa came to us for support and left looking like sunshine. ☀️

The right equipment can make the world feel a little bigger. We're so happy for Lisa and all the places she'll go next.

Thank you to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab for the referral.

"I feel like I've had two lives. One before my wheelchair and one after."

After years of setbacks and struggling to find reliable equipment, Josh was referred to D4D by Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital.

Today, he's raising four children and looking forward to volunteering at D4D with his family this summer.

"I can."

Franco's first words when he tried his new chair.

D4D is here to get you back in your community.

"Who's going to help me?"

It's a question no one should have to ask while recovering from a serious injury and facing new mobility challenges. When access to critical equipment is delayed, D4D helps bridge the gap. That's why hospitals, healthcare providers, and families turn to us for support.

Recovery is hard enough. Getting the equipment you need shouldn't be.

"Don't give up. Stay encouraged. Your life is not over with."

At D4D, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live life to their fullest potential. 💙

Thank you to WGN TV and Dina Bair for sharing Bryan's story.
