Since hearing about the passing of Gash Debebe Eshetu, I have been at a loss for words to express the depth of my grief and admiration for him. He was not only a legendary artist and politician but also a steadfast supporter and advisor to me personally and to Maleda Media since 2005—long before I was forced into exile during the Ethiopian federal election turmoil.
At that time, when we journalists were falsely accused by the TPLF government of crimes such as genocide and treason—charges we never committed—Gash Debebe stood by us with courage and integrity. As we reported on the killings of innocent civilians and children in Addis Ababa, he rose as an opposition figure who guided us, encouraging us to stand firm in the face of the most oppressive era Ethiopia had ever endured.
From the early days of Maleda Media (Maledatimes.com) until his final days, Gash Debebe was a vital source of information and wisdom. Even when he was battling illness, he continued to provide us with accurate, timely updates about the realities of life in Ethiopia—the suffering of the people, the struggles with poverty, and the silent exploitation of the nation by foreign powers. His dedication to truth and justice helped Maleda Media remain steadfast in its mission.
Today, we have lost not only an iconic artist and storyteller but also a political thinker, a mentor, and a true friend of our media. His lifelong contributions through film, theater, literature, and activism will remain etched in our hearts forever.
Thank you, Gash Debebe, for your tireless dedication, your wisdom, and your love for Ethiopia. You will always be remembered with the deepest respect and gratitude. The entire Maleda Media family mourns your passing, cherishes your legacy, and loves you dearly.
As you often reminded us: “አክባሪህ ዘለአለም ገብሬ” — we will honor your memory for all eternity.

I fully support the decision to ban TikTok in the United States. While Mr. Shou and the TikTok administration have appealed to the American public, highlighting the platform’s role in promoting freedom of speech and connecting communities, it is crucial to examine its broader impact critically. TikTok has become a hub for harmful behaviors, disrespectful content, and a lack of accountability, which undermines its claimed values.

It is worth noting the stark contrast between how TikTok operates in China and how it is presented to the rest of the world. The Chinese government carefully filters TikTok (Douyin) for their own children and citizens, prioritizing educational content, life skills, and learning materials that promote constructive development and national pride. However, when it comes to other countries, they allow unfiltered content that often promotes chaos, divisiveness, and misinformation, while collecting massive amounts of personal data, information, and insights about users. The disparity is alarming and clearly reflects the platform’s prioritization of profit and data exploitation over the well-being of its global user base.

Particularly concerning is the behavior of certain communities, including Ethiopian TikTok users, who frequently misuse the platform. Instead of engaging in meaningful, constructive discussions, many resort to cursing, insults, and spreading divisive rhetoric, often claiming they know the “best solutions” for political or social issues without offering real value. This behavior is neither professional nor productive and contributes to a toxic online environment.

The U.S. government’s decision to ban TikTok is a necessary step to safeguard public discourse, personal privacy, and national security. I strongly believe such actions should extend to other countries, ensuring that platforms prioritize respect, responsibility, and the betterment of society over financial gain and data exploitation.

ችካጎ ሲባል እንደ ትልቅ ቅርስ ዋይልድ ሄር የሬጌ ሚውዚቅ ሁልጊዜም ይነሳል :: ቴዲ አፍሮ ሰሜን አሜሪካም ይሁን አውሮጳ ኮንሰርት ሲኖረው በቅድሚ ልምምድ ወይንም ርሔርሳል በዚሁ በዋይል ሄር ባር ውስጥ ሳምንት ሁለት ሳምንት ወይንም ወራቶችንም አስቆጥረው ከእነ ሙሉ ባንዱ ልምምዳቸውን የሚያደርጉበት ትልቅ ቦታቸውም ነው :: የአቡጊዳ ባንድ ልዩ ቤታቸውም እንደሆነ ይናገሩለታል::

በተለይም የምንወደው ወንድማችን አሥራት አኧምሮሥላሴ ህልሙን እውን ለማድረግ ሲተጋ የኖረ ወንድማችን ነበር ነገር ግን እንደ አሰበው ሳይሆን ድንገት ይህችን አለም ተሰናብቶብን አለፈ:: ታዲያ ከአሥራት ጎን ሆኖ እኩል ገነባቸውን ኃይላቸውን እውቀታቸውን ሁሉ ሳይቀር ሲከሰክሱ የነበሩት የአቡጊዳ ባንድ ድራም (ከበሮ) ተጨዋች የሆነው በፀባዩ ማንም ሊወዳደረው የማይችለው ሩፋኤል ወልደማርያም እና ቤተሰቦቹ የዋይልድ ሄር ከተቀበረበት እንዲነሳ ከአሥራት ጋር በመሆን ህይወትን ዘርተውበታል ::
