VARANASI POLICE have arrested 5 accused after the circulation of a viral video of cooking meat and enjoying an alcohol party. The video shows people eating a chicken biryani on a boat in the middle of the Ganges at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat. Earlier in March 2026, the BJP mayor within the Varanasi Municipal Corporation passed the proposal of banning the sale of meat and fish.

The video of a boat in which people were cooking meat and alcohol have links to a BJP councilor. After the video went viral, police arrested all the five accused shown in the video and also seized the boat for further investigation.

Earlier in March, during the month of Ramdan, a 'biryani party' was hosted by Muslim youths on a boat amidst the waves of the Ganges near Varanasi's Panchganga Ghat. The video of the Iftar party went viral on social media platforms. On March 17, 2026, the police officials said that fourteen people were arrested on charges of defiling a place of worship and hurting religious feelings.

Viral Video Sparks Controversy Again

On June 22, 2026, evening, a video of people cooking meat and enjoying alcohol in a boat in the middle of the Ganges at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat went viral and the internet is divided with several opinions. The viral video was approximately 1 minute and 15 seconds long. The boat is linked to Satyanarayan Sahni—alias Tanna, a BJP-nominated councilor from the Agastyakunda area. He is currently serving as a Vice President of the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Mandal within the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The police registered a case against all the members involved in the liquor party at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat and also seized the boat. The accused arrested by police includes Ajay Sahani, Arun Kumar Sahani, Rahul Sahani, Anurag Nishad, and Deepak Kumar. All the arrested accused are aged between 25 and 32 years, as reported by police.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted their preliminary report in the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case to the Uttar Pradesh government, officials told PTI. Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant submitted the report to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad. The findings are still at preliminary stage and investigation is still underway. Pant told PTI that a final report is expected within 10 to 15 days.

While speaking to the media, Pant said, "Based on the information that has come to light so far and the facts available with us, we have submitted the first report today. This is only the preliminary report and the final report will be submitted after some time." He maintained that the details of the report are confidential and he is not authorized to share them to the public at this stage.

A MAJOR LAND HOLDINGS TRAIL linked to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has come under scrutiny after an investigation by The Indian Express claimed that members of his family and their associated companies purchased at least 168 acres of land through 137 plots in and around Ujjain over the last two years.

The Indian Express report claims that the purchases, estimated to be worth around ₹45 crore, included villages and localities that later became part of major government’s infrastructure projects, including new roads, highway alignments, and changes proposed under the Ujjain Master Plan 2035, which was released in May 2023.

At the centre of this unscrupulous land trail is not just the CM Mohan Yadav, but a large circle of relatives including his wife Seema Yadav, son Vaibhav Yadav, daughter-in-law Shalini Yadav, brothers Narayan and Nandlal Yadav, sister Kalavati Yadav, nephew Abhay Yadav and first cousins Govind and Nilesh Yadav.

Jay Mazoomdaar’s investigative report states that the Madhya Pradesh CM himself owns at least 17 acres in Ujjain, including 13 acres purchased in Sawarakhedi in 1998 and 4 acres of inherited property. Apart from this, he and his wife reportedly hold a 73% stake in family real-estate company Shri Siddhivinayak Devcons Pvt Ltd, which also owned nearly 40 acres of land, including fresh purchases made during 2024-25.

Details of Yadav Family’s Land Purchases -

According to The Indian Express, Mohan Yadav's wife Seema holds at least 10.6 acres in her own name while son Vaibhav purchased at least 16 acres in Sawarakhedi and Dhediya from 2021 onwards. Vaibhav's wife Shalini, who married into the family in February 2024, reportedly has more than 10 acres in Gangedi in her name, which was purchased during June and July 2025.

The report further says Mohan Yadav's elder brother Narayan Yadav holds at least 19 acres—either directly, jointly or through associated firms—with nearly 15 acres acquired since 2021. Narayan's wife Rekha has also purchased......

According to several sources, Ritabrata Banerjee held a meeting at a hotel in New Town, Kolkata in which 60 MLAs and 70 councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation were involved.

“Mamata Banerjee could join the new set-up as chief advisor of the party if she wished,” framing the move as part of a broader reorganization, Ritabrata Banerjee said. She named Arup Roy, the senior MLA as the chairperson of what it called the "real" Trinamool Congress. Also, Abhishek Banerjee has been suspended from the position of the National General Secretary.

The meeting led by Ritabrata Banerjee first approved a 10-member national working committee which included Arup Roy, Akhruzzaman Ansari, Sabina Yasmin, Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Biplab Mitra, Sandipan Saha, Rathin Ghosh, Javed Khan and Ritabrata Banerjee, before converting it into a 30-member committee.

Biswas and Hakim, former Ministers and MLAs, Ghosh and Yasmin were appointed as the party’s Vice-Chairpersons. Akhruzzaman Ansari was announced as a treasurer whereas Ritabrata Banerjee, Khan and Saha were named general secretaries

When was TMC established?

In January 1988, the Trinamool Congress was founded by Mamata Banerjee after resigning from the Congress party.
