Crews will begin installation of the Milwaukee/North/Damen + Milwaukee Ave near-term improvements the week of 8/28! This pilot project will include improvements for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving along the Milwaukee Ave corridor, including reducing the posted speed limit to 20mph, Chicago's first dashed bike lane, and numerous 'paint & post' bumpouts. CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Downtown Street Resurfacing Runs Through September - Bike lanes on Dearborn & Clinton will be impacted starting Monday, 9/12.

DEARBORN: Roadway will be resurfaced between Madison and Wacker. The two-way bike lane will remain open throughout most of the construction, but will be closed nightly during active construction the week of 9/19. During overnight closures, people riding north on Dearborn will be directed to ride in the northbound travel lanes, and people riding southbound will be detoured to Clark St, with proper detour signage posted.

CLINTON: One block between Randolph and Lake will be resurfaced. The two-way bike lane will be maintained throughout construction, but at times, this will necessitate a temporary bike lane delineated with signs and cones.

CDOT recommends that people ride slowly through the construction zones as pavement may be rough, and use alternate routes as necessary.

Numerous Department of Water Management (DWM) and private utility projects in the CBD have impacted some of Chicago's most traveled bikeways. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while this critical infrastructure work takes place. The good news is that most of these projects are in their final stages and soon three streets will have fresh pavement and new bike lanes to ride. Details of each project are below-

Kinzie Street from Desplaines to Wells: DWM and private utilities are scheduled to finish work in fall 2016, after which this entire stretch will be resurfaced and the protected bike lanes will be reinstalled.

Dearborn Street from Adams to Monroe: Private utility work is scheduled to finish by October, after which this block will be resurfaced and the protected bike lanes will be reinstalled.

Dearborn Street from Madison to Wacker: DWM and private utilities are scheduled to finish work in September, after which this entire stretch will be resurfaced and the protected bike lanes will be reinstalled.

Randolph Street from Clinton to Michigan: DWM and private utilities are scheduled to finish their work by Labor Day, after which the street will be resurfaced and a new westbound protected bike lane will be installed along the north curb. Active construction work on developments between State and Dearborn and between Wells and Franklin will continue into 2017 and delay the installation of the bike lane on these two blocks until after the developments are complete. Temporary signage and pavement markings will be installed on these two blocks.

If you have any questions about these projects please email [email protected].
