Dems 45 had a fabulous canvass launch this morning for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vasquez (8th District)! We were grateful to have so many of our wonderful volunteers energized to knock doors for our endorsed candidates. It was also a pleasure to hear from Steve McKenzie, slated candidate for Cook County Judge, who is unopposed in the primary, but made compelling pitches for other endorsed judicial candidates – Luz Toledo and Michael Cabonargi. We also collected petition signatures for Claudia Peralta for Chicago School Board. Be sure to vote on or before March 17th!

Due to the unfortunate passing of Clerk Karen Yarbrough, the Cook County Democratic Party will convene on Friday, April 26 to make a temporary appointment to fill the position through December 2024, and slate a Democratic nominee for the November ballot, to serve the final two years of Clerk Yarbrough's unexpired term.
I've been working with other committeepeople to organize a virtual candidate forum that will allow the public to learn more about the appointment & slating process, hear from the candidates, and provide input to their committeeperson in advance of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee meeting on Friday. Please consider joining us for the forum, which will be Thursday, April 25th from 7-9 pm via Zoom. Register at bit.ly/ccc-forum (or use QR code below) to RSVP and receive the Zoom link for the forum.

I'm excited to announce that I will be the next Democratic Committeeperson of the 45th Ward! With 100% of precincts reporting, including most vote by mail ballots, we lead by 634 votes, 54-46%.
I'm honored by this outcome and grateful for this opportunity to lead Democrats in our ward for the next four years.
I'd like to thank Joe Cook for his service as 41st Ward Democratic Committeeperson the past four years, as well as his service to our nation as a major in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps and his volunteer work in our community.
This victory is due to our amazing team that organized our canvasses, fundraisers, postcard writing, phone banking, meet and greet events, and other campaign activities. Our volunteers and I knocked on 23,000 doors all across the ward, and we personally talked to many voters multiple times.
I'm also extremely grateful for the endorsements and support of Congresswoman Delia Ramirez and State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, as well as the endorsements of organizations such as United Northwest Side (UNS), Northside Democracy for America (NDFA), The People's Lobby, Cook County College Teachers Union, and others. Lindsey and UNS in particular provided extraordinary support for our campaign, and we could not have won without their tireless efforts.
Stay tuned for more information in the near future on how you can get involved with the new 45th Ward Democratic organization we will be building. Together, we will create a diverse, inclusive, and accessible group that works for Democrats in 45.
Thank you all for being a part of this movement to bring new, ethical, and active leadership to the 45th ward!
With gratitude,
Michael
