Earlier today, State Representative La Shawn K. Ford, joined by his attorney Joseph Reyna and Congressman Danny K. Davis, held a press conference to address what they described as false and defamatory political attacks funded by outside interests in the closing days of the campaign. During the event, Ford’s legal team announced that a formal cease-and-desist demand had been issued to the organizations responsible for the advertisements and to media outlets airing them, warning that the claims being circulated about Ford are false and damaging to his reputation.

Attorney Joseph Reyna stated that the advertisements contain statements that are “false, misleading, and defamatory,” including accusations that Representative Ford engaged in corruption or committed crimes he did not commit. Reyna emphasized that Ford “has never been tried on, convicted of, or pled guilty to 17 federal felony counts of fraud” and has never engaged in the conduct alleged in the advertisements. The legal notice demands that those responsible immediately cease and desist from publishing or distributing the claims and preserve all related communications and records in anticipation of potential legal action.

When voters speak, leaders listen.

In 2018 and 2019, Cook County voters overwhelmingly passed the "Treatment on Demand" advisory referendum — sending a clear message that treatment and mental health access should come before incarceration. It was advisory, but it mattered. It shifted the conversation and influenced policy and funding

Now, we’re doing it again.

We’re launching an advisory referendum to urge Congress to protect and strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid — earned benefits that tens of thousands of seniors in the 7th District depend on every day.

Starting tomorrow, voters can sign the petition to help place this question on the November ballot.

Social Security is earned.
Medicare is a promise.
Healthcare security is dignity.

Sign. Organize. Spread the word.

When the 7th District speaks, Washington should listen.
