it's [cookie crunching] time.

hey, thank you so much for watching "Thing's Night Out".

i'm still kinda pinching myself at the reaction; everyone's had such kind words to say, and i feel like the only response i have available is gratitude.

gratitude for you, my incomparable cast/crew, these fictional characters who've moved us so deeply, and for every person who believed in a little love letter to jack kirby from when it was just an idea all the way to its final credit.

it's been a helluva ride. i hope we didn't disappoint.

we'll see you on the next one ♥︎

"Keep the change."

..and now, a very choppy clip from "Thing's Night Out" that I put together in less than 2-minutes 💀

Before the short film goes live, I wanted to give you a quick taste (aha...) of the team dynamics headed into Sunday.

See the animated pizza flop in 4K, and join us for the rest of family dinner tomorrow night (December 21st) at 7PM EST, only on YouTube.

animation versus reference.

stop-motion animators (and even VFX artists) know there are only so many ways you can spice up a simple dialogue sequence, and far from last on the list is using pre-existing media (especially that of the few featuring a rare orange rock character) as inspiration or 1-to-1 recreation.

in this case, it was a no-brainer to use ebon moss-bachrach's incredible performance capture from the first steps trailer to communicate a similar idea in thing's night out.

hope you like it, and we'll see you sunday (dec. 21st) for family dinner :)

It's a Fantastic Life.

As of last night, we officially locked a finished cut of "Thing's Night Out", which means promos are gonna be full steam ahead this week.

For one of the last bits of teaser material, here's the final carousel of stills from the short film before it becomes available to watch (be on the lookout for last-minute surprises 😉).

These past 4-months, from pre-production to post, have been a ridiculous rollercoaster ride-- though not one without its stress-led, sugar-fueled, and story-first scrutiny, kept afloat/patient by passion, producers (!!), espresso, and the most supportive messages one can receive (you know who you are, and I appreciate you very much ♥︎).

What seemed a dream frozen 3-years ago became something I was able to paint on a thawed out canvas with my eyes closed over the course of two seasons.

I've got handfuls of people to thank, with an overflowing amount of gratitude to go around (not limited to the help I was graced with in taking this love letter to Jack Kirby + Ben Grimm off the page and onto your little screen), but hardly enough time to express it all, so I'm hoping the finished product is sufficient in singing their praises.

This one's an ode to classic 2015 - 2018 stop-motions (an active choice to ditch mouth animations/shoot on two's with simplicity in-mind), as well as paying homage to 40s/50s/60s talkies in aesthetic/atmos (think Frank Capra/Sidney Lumet), but fingers-crossed, it also manages to do things within this tight-knit artform that have never been done before.

Maybe after you've seen it, you'll say, "nothing really happened"... or maybe after you've seen it, you can say, "everything really happens."

I haven't been this excited about a personal project in a very long time.

see you for family dinner on December 21st :)

Here's a new look at "Thing's Night Out".

During one of the their earliest Sunday dinners, the Fantastic Four set off on a more domestic expedition: packing up Ben Grimm's old apartment in preparation for a move into the Baxter Building.

The team, a friend from Yancy, and new life circumstances challenge the ever-lovin, blue-eyed Thing amidst his everlastin', black-holed woes of the inescapable and fast-moving concepts of change, grief, identity, and the present moment, all in a single night.

thank you for waiting 💙 this one's almost here :)

“Maybe love ain’t enough…”

hey, thanks a million for your patience 💙

filming for “The Thing’s Night Out” wrapped a little over two weeks ago, and as of today, post-production is roughly 45% completed.

it’s been so surreal seeing this love letter to ben grimm find its footing- with personal nitpicks & doubts about the project par for the course, but i hope it won’t be too long till i get to share it in full with all of you.

two versions are currently being worked on: one, in colour + 3:2, and another, in black/white + 4:3 (how it was originally envisioned— which’ll be a very fun roll-out.

in the meantime, here are a handful of the stills i *can* release, giving you a taste of what the film is really about.

Five years ago today, BATMAN: Under The Dark Episode One, titled, "What Remains", premiered on YouTube.

Immediately, it was met with a kind of love and gratification that one couldn't have been more overwhelmed by.

An enormous THANK YOU to anyone/everyone who's been there since the beginning, and to those who have just begun to watch.

All of your expressed kindness and especially your patient support have meant the world to me, and I'm working really hard with my cast/crew to bring the follow-up in the best way we can.

Episode Two, titled, "Truth Be Told", releases on Batman Day 2026.

I'm sorry for ruining the Bee Gees for you ♥︎ but you can catch the first episode again² at the link in my bio.

We're also hosting a rewatch party tonight within the Animators Assembled discord server, so feel free to join us/tune in for that!

happy birthday, jack kirby 💙

i wanted to write a character that felt like family.

someone who would just drop nuggets of wisdom & perspective whenever they sensed doubt.

that's where curt came in. based on the 828 king. and i'm unbelievably excited for you to meet him.

is 🫧

The more work that goes into this one, the realer it is, and the scarier it is to piece together.

Something about really long, emotional, dialogue-heavy shoots feels more intimidating/daunting than any fisticuffs transaction I've ever filmed.
..and from what I've been told, that's really a huge reason why it's gotta be made.

If we aren't scaling the mountains we have the privilege of bearing witness to in front of us, what are we doing?

It's supposed to be tough. It's supposed to be exhausting. You're meant to give it your all.

Sues is, ironically, this story's calming Storm amidst the storm.

Sometimes, we'll hear tidbits of pure, unfiltered, much-needed wisdom in conversation from somebody else, but immediately after that lengthy back-and-forth, we stubbornly, though humanly, revert back to where we were before we had that chat.

She's a reminder that it's okay not to be okay.

Things are always changing, but for other Things, change doesn't start overnight.
