Teacher training matters most when learning from the training makes its way into the classroom. 📚
After our literacy instruction training with Sunshine Urban Foundation, our team returned to the classrooms to see how teachers were putting the strategies into practice.
And we saw encouraging signs.
Teachers were using practical tools and approaches introduced during the training to help learners practise and recognise letter sounds.
It’s a simple strategy, but it represents something important: teachers are taking what they learned and adapting it to support their learners in real classroom settings.
For us, this is what teacher development is about. It’s not simply about completing a training session; it’s about building teachers’ confidence, strengthening their practice, and supporting them to use the resources available to create meaningful learning experiences.
From training room to classroom, we’re seeing teachers turn new knowledge into action, and that’s where change begins. 🌱📖

Fun fact! Did you know that reading actually changes the physical structure of a child’s brain?
When children get lost in a great story, their brains fire neural signals as if they are experiencing the adventure themselves. If a character is running through a forest, the same parts of the brain activate as if the child were physically running too.
That’s why we do what we do: empowering children to become passionate, confident readers through culturally relevant content and programs. 🌍📚
Reading isn’t just a basic skill; it’s a gateway to opportunity, creativity, and self-belief. When young minds connect with stories that reflect their lives, we spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture the next generation of leaders to go beyond every boundary.

🌍 1 billion people cannot read this sentence.
For many children, the challenge isn’t a lack of ability. It’s a lack of consistent support to learn.
Across underserved communities, children move through school without mastering basic reading skills. Large class sizes, limited materials, and stretched teachers make it difficult for them to get the attention they need.
But when the right support is in place, everything changes.
At Pangea, we work alongside teachers and caregivers to build strong reading foundations, supported by culturally relevant books, so learning doesn’t stop at the classroom.
Because every child deserves the chance to understand the words in front of them, and the world beyond them.

What is literacy? 📚
Literacy is more than reading words on a page.
It's the moment a child realises, "My voice matters. My dreams matter. My future matters."
Through literacy, children learn to:
✨ Imagine possibilities beyond their circumstances.
💡 Think for themselves.
🗣️ Speak with confidence.
🌍 Shape the future they deserve.
Yet millions of children are still growing up without access to the books and learning opportunities that could change their lives.
At Pangea, we believe every child deserves the chance to discover the joy of reading and the power of their own voice. Every book placed in a child's hands is more than a story; it's hope, confidence, and opportunity.
Because when a child learns to read, they don't just change their own story—they gain the power to change the world.

📚✨What happens when children are given the tools to learn, imagine, and grow?
In Imvepi Refugee Settlement, the answer is inspiring.
Since February, children have gained access to storybooks and iPads that are helping them build foundational literacy skills, improve their English, and discover a love for learning. Those who once struggled to write the alphabet or read simple words are now making remarkable progress.
"The iPads have really helped the children this time," shares Alisson, a community leader and parent. "Even children who aren't in the program are learning by watching others. When they're shown how to write something, they start learning."
The impact goes beyond technology. Storybooks are encouraging children to read, speak confidently, and stay engaged in school. Older learners are stepping up to mentor younger ones, creating a culture where children learn from and inspire each other.
While many parents face the daily challenge of balancing work and family responsibilities, their commitment to their children's education remains strong. As Alisson explains, "It's not that we don't want our children to participate; we do. We still have interest in the program."
Every book opened. Every lesson shared. Every child encouraged.
These are the small moments that lead to lasting change. ❤️

Every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading. 📚💙
In Imvepi Refugee Settlement, our reading space is more than a library. It's a place where children discover new worlds, build confidence, ask questions, and experience the joy of stories in a safe and welcoming environment. Every book opened is an opportunity to learn, imagine, and dream beyond today's circumstances.
This year, 792 children visited our reading space, each one taking another step on their literacy journey.
Behind every number is a child who found a story to love, a new word to learn, or the confidence to keep reading.
While we're celebrating this milestone, our work isn't finished. There are still more children waiting for access to books and the opportunities they unlock.
Your support can help us reach more children with the books and reading opportunities they need to succeed. https://www.pangeaeducation.org/donate-page
Because when a child discovers the joy of reading, they unlock a lifetime of possibilities.

📊 Real Impact: Gender-Responsive Classrooms Transforming Education in Uganda 📚✨
Through targeted Gender-Responsive Teaching Training, teachers are strengthening classroom practices that create more inclusive and equitable learning environments for hundreds of girls and boys, including children from refugee and host communities in Adjumani and Madi Okollo districts in Uganda.
Key Results from Classroom Observations:
✅ 93% of observed classrooms used learner-centred approaches, including group work, projects, and interactive methods that encourage active participation.
✅ 68% of classrooms demonstrated strong practices supporting learners with disabilities and visual challenges through improved accessibility and targeted support.
✅ 54% of classrooms implemented mixed seating arrangements for girls and boys, promoting collaboration and equal participation.
Teachers are also building positive teacher–learner relationships and applying inclusive practices.
The findings highlight meaningful progress while guiding our ongoing support. Continued coaching and mentorship will help teachers further strengthen gender-sensitive language and fully embed inclusive practices.
Your partnership is delivering measurable change. By equipping teachers with practical tools, training, and follow-up support, we are building classrooms where every child, regardless of gender, ability, or background, has the opportunity to participate, learn, and thrive.
With sustained collaboration, we can expand these gains across more districts and continue strengthening quality, inclusive education in Uganda’s refugee-hosting communities.
Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable future. 💪📚

“Learning doesn’t stop. It continues at home.”
Before joining Literacy Hour, Betty believed education only happened in the classroom. Today, she is actively supporting her children’s learning through storytelling, writing, and everyday moments at home.
Her journey highlights a critical truth: when caregivers are empowered, children thrive.
Betty’s daughter is now improving in reading, and her younger child has grown in confidence, small changes that signal lasting impact.
At Pangea, we are committed to equipping both teachers and caregivers to support learning beyond the classroom.
