A busy March in our beautiful capital of City of Springfield Illinois.
Last week, Commission staff testified in committee about important legislation (HB3144) sponsored by Leader Eva-Dina Delgado in the Illinois House and Leader Elgie Sims Jr. in the Senate.
We thank them and and all of the co-sponsors for their leadership and support.
This week, the Commission was honored to present its FY 2026 budget request, as authorized by Governor JB Pritzker to the Illinois General Assembly.
Thanks to our board chair, Selma D'Souza and our senior management team of Claudia Ortega, David Larson and Brian Weinthal for their preparation and attendance in these important opportunities to share the work of Illinois Human Rights Commission with our elected representatives.

Yesterday, David R. Larson, General Counsel and Chief Administrative Law Judge Brian Weinthal of the Illinois Human Rights Commission were honored to present at the 2025 Half-Day Ethics Officer Conference hosted and executed by the State of Illinois Executive Ethics Commission.

Congratulations to Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge Azeema Akram who was recognized on October 8th as “2024 Employee of the Year” by the Illinois Interagency Committee on Employees with Disabilities (ICED), for her ongoing work to advocate for increased accessibility in legal proceedings.

The Assistant General Counsel position is critical to the work of our agency and provides first-level legal analysis, makes recommendations to our Commissioners, and serves as a point of public contact for the agency. The successful candidates will regularly interpret and apply federal and state anti-discrimination laws in the areas of employment, housing, access to financial credit, public accommodations, and education.
