This quilt draws from the circular structure of the Bakongo Cosmogram, using repeated and mirrored forms to create a kaleidoscope-like movement across the surface. The layered patterns turn rhythm and movement into visual form, reflecting ideas of continuity, trance, and spiritual connection.

Spirit in Motion- Symbolism This quilt is inspired by the diamond and cross variation of the Bakongo Cosmogram, exploring ideas of ancestral presence, cyclical time, and spiritual connection. Repeated shapes shift in size like stars in the night sky, inspired in part by Arester Earl’s Dream Quilt. The work reflects how dreams can become a space for memory, connection, and reunion with ancestors.

Spirit in Motion - Movement
Movement plays a central role in many African diasporic spiritual traditions. Inspired by the movement of the Ring Shout, a ritual of singing, clapping and circular movement. This work reflects the rhythm and energy of bodies moving counterclockwise in a circle. Radial patterns, mirrored forms and shifting color create a sene of vibration, flow and connection.
