HP LaserJet came in printing faded pages. Customer had already tried new toner cartridges and the problem persisted, which is usually the sign that toner isn't actually the issue.

Tore it down to get to the laser scanner unit and found the optical windows were dirty. A thorough cleaning with 99% IPA and cotton swabs later, prints came out crisp and dark again.

New toner is usually the first guess when prints go faded, but if swapping cartridges doesn't fix it, the laser scanner is worth looking at before you write off the printer entirely.
