Did you know that your HVAC/furnace filter plays a crucial role in keeping your indoor air clean and healthy as well as preventing fires? It filters out dust, pollen, pet dander, and other airborne particles that can cause allergies and respiratory issues.

But did you also know that not changing your furnace filter regularly can increase the risk of fires? According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment was involved in an estimated 48,000 home fires in the US in 2018, and 15% of those fires were caused by not cleaning or changing the furnace filter.

So how often should you change your furnace filter? It depends on the type of filter you use and how often you run your heating system. Generally, you should replace your filter every 1-3 months, but if you have pets or allergies, you may need to change it more frequently.

Make sure to use a filter that matches your HVAC system's specifications. Fiberglass filters are the most common and affordable, but they may not catch all particles. Pleated filters are more effective but also more expensive. HEPA filters are the most efficient but may require professional installation.

Don't neglect your furnace filter - it's an easy and inexpensive way to keep your air clean and your home safe.

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets are electrical outlets that have a built-in mechanism to detect and interrupt ground faults. GFCI outlets are designed to protect people from electrical hazards and are commonly found in areas where there is a risk of electrical shock, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas. They can be identified by the "test" and "reset" buttons on the face of the outlet. Below are 3 reasons you need GFCI outlets in your home:

1) Safety: GFCI outlets are designed to protect against electrical shock by sensing imbalances in the electrical current and quickly shutting off power in the event of a ground fault. This can help prevent serious injuries or death from electrocution.

2) Protection of appliances: GFCI outlets provide protection to appliances and electronic devices by preventing power surges and voltage fluctuations that can damage or destroy them.

3) Legal requirement: GFCI outlets are required by code in many areas, particularly in wet or damp locations such as bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas. Building codes and regulations vary by location, but in many places, it is required to install GFCI outlets in these types of areas.
