“REDefining REDlining!”
Walked from Aileen, Brandon, and Ryan’s place in Bronzeville to the 52-5400 blocks of South Prairie to see the GENIUS of artist AMANDA WILLIAMS who, with help from hundreds of friends, neighbors, and volunteers, planted over 100,000 red tulip bulbs on these blocks to magnify the history of REDLINING in Black and Brown communities.
The 100,000 bulbs signify the 21 buildings that once housed hundreds of families in the neighborhood that were destroyed by racist REDLINING by banks, savings and loans, and government agencies.
The tulips will be in bloom for another week and will be a reminder of the need for AFFORDABLE HOUSING NOW to correct this racist history.
