Available now! Jerome Tiunayan’s “Better Half,” the first release in Vertical Gallery’s new Vertical Collectors Club print series!

“Better Half,” timed especially for Valentine’s Day gift-giving, continues the comic misadventures of Jerome’s semi-autobiographical signature character and the boy’s canine comrade, a stand-in for the Chicago-based artist’s beloved mini goldendoodle Mochi. The sweet, simple image depicts the boy offering the dog half of his sandwich — a show of sacrifice, commitment and devotion.

“My wife Valerie taught me that feeding somebody, or having somebody feed you, is a gesture that can only be from love,” Jerome () tells us.

“Better Half” is signed and numbered in an edition of just 25 copies, and sized at 16 by 20 inches — perfect for standard frames.

You can learn much more about Jerome, Mochi and “Better Half” in the latest installment of our website-exclusive Vertical Portraits series (link in bio).

These aren’t your everyday Coca-Cola bottles. They’re something much more refreshing.

British street artist Mau Mau, whose latest solo showcase ‘ ..’ premieres at Vertical Gallery () on Friday, July 11, spent Tuesday afternoon painstakingly transforming Coke’s famous contour bottles into objet d’art versions of Molotov cocktails — hand-thrown incendiary weapons consisting of frangible containers filled with flammable substances and equipped with fuses (in this case, rolled-up dollar bills). Pay special attention to the labels, which depict Mau Mau’s name in Coca-Cola’s distinctive Spencerian typeface.

The iconic Coca-Cola logo, introduced in 1887, was designed by Frank Mason Robinson, the Atlanta-based soft drink manufacturer’s bookkeeper. The brand’s pervasiveness is undeniable: as of 2025, Coca-Cola is sold across more than 200 countries and territories, with roughly 2.2 billion servings of the company’s beverages consumed each day. “Coca-Cola is a fluid that, like gasoline, is indispensable to, and symbolic of, the American way of life,” E.J. Kahn Jr. wrote for The New Yorker back in 1959.

Mau Mau’s Coke bottles go on sale tonight when ‘ ..’ opens to the public from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mau Mau () will be on hand signing copies of his new book ‘Talking Out of My Art,’ so don’t miss out!

Ali Six (), the Chicago-based multimedia artist and graffiti writer celebrated for his signature creation Richie the Raccoon, was the focus of a Vertical Gallery solo exhibit in mid-2021. ‘Trust,’ which drew on personal experiences from throughout Ali Six’s life, presented pieces across a diverse range of mediums: sculptures, wood cutouts, skate decks, mirrors, found materials, even hand-woven decorative rugs.

Ali Six’s affection for vintage cartoons galvanized Richie the Raccoon’s development. “I felt a raccoon best symbolized the night culture of graffiti,” the artist (a.k.a. Nikko Locander) explained ahead of ‘Trust.’ “Raccoons are nocturnal, and while everyone is asleep, graffiti artists are awake, creating masterpieces.”

The sculpture depicted above, titled “Gravity,” is the only work from ‘Trust’ still available for purchase from Vertical. This polished bronze piece stands 9.5 inches tall and 5 inches wide, and comes from an edition of just 10.

“Gravity” is available now in-person at the gallery (2006 W. Chicago Ave. ; enter via the alley off Damen) or online (link in bio). Don’t sleep.
