Dr. Lena
Thank you for visiting my page! My name is Dr. Lena and I am a multilingual occupational therapist!
✨This was my final gestational diabetes appointment.
My second pregnancy with gestational diabetes.
For months, every meal came with a question:
“Will this spike my blood sugar?”
“Am I doing enough?”
“Is my baby okay?”
One of the hardest parts of gestational diabetes isn’t the finger sticks, food logs, or appointments.
It’s carrying the responsibility of a diagnosis that can affect your child.
Even when you’re doing everything you can, there can still be uncertainty.
There can still be fear and guilt.
That’s why walking out of this appointment felt emotional.
One thing many people don’t realize is that gestational diabetes is different from other forms of diabetes.
It is largely driven by hormones produced by the placenta that increase insulin resistance during pregnancy.
For most women, blood sugar levels improve rapidly after delivery once the placenta is gone.
Gestational diabetes is associated with increased risks for both mother and baby, which is why monitoring and treatment matter.
But if you’re currently checking your blood sugar multiple times a day, planning every meal, and worrying about every number, I want you to know this:
This season will end.
I’ve had GDM twice, and I’ve shared many of the meals and strategies that helped me through both pregnancies. My hope is that my work helps others feel less overwhelmed and more supported. 🤍

How did your gestational diabetes care make you feel? ✨
✨ Most pregnancy exercises won’t prevent diastasis recti…
because your body doesn’t function in isolated movements.
It functions in transitional movements—like getting on and off the toilet.
☀️ Hi, I’m Dr. Lena — occupational therapist and mom.
And this is where I see the biggest gap.
Most women are doing exactly what they were told to do.
That’s the problem.
Because a lot of pregnancy advice focuses on isolated exercises…
instead of the movements your body actually relies on every single day.
Your core is not an exercise.
It’s a functional system.
And motor learning research is clear—
your body adapts through specific, repeated real-life movement patterns.
So if you’re not practicing movements like this…
Your body isn’t learning how to:
• manage pressure when standing
• coordinate your breath with effort
• protect your pelvic floor during transitions
• move efficiently without strain
And then we act surprised when women experience:
• diastasis recti
• pelvic floor symptoms
• back pain postpartum
What birth prep should actually look like:
100+ small, functional reps woven into your day:
• exhaling as you stand
• leaning forward to shift weight before standing
• staying connected through your core
• avoiding breath holding
Because this movement?
You’re doing it multiple times a day.
That’s your training.
That’s how you build a body that supports you after birth—
not just one that completes a checklist during pregnancy.
If this is the first time you’re hearing this—you’re not behind 🤍
You’re finally being given tools that actually translate to real life.
✨ I share practical, evidence-based tips like this daily—so you can use them, not just save them. 🤗
All my best,Dr. Lena
