Meet Penelope.
She's a scrappy little terrier mix I met today at the Anti-Cruelty Center in Chicago. At first she kept her distance, the kind of dog that makes you earn her trust.
We sat in a quiet room away from all the barking. Just the two of us. No noise, no rush.
After a while she looked up at me with those eyes, and I swear they stopped me for a second. You can tell she's been through a lot, but she's still got that spark in her.
Next week is National Adoption Week, and dogs like Penelope deserve a real shot. A home, a person, some peace. Whoever ends up calling Penelope their dog is going to be lucky.

Who would've thought that the kid with bad asthma, the one who could barely run a lap without wheezing, would grow up to run a marathon and keep proving himself wrong?
From the expo to the people to the long training runs, this whole journey was something l'll never forget. My family and friends thought I was crazy for wanting to do this, but to me, it was never just a marathon.
It was a chance to prove to myself once again that I'm stronger than I give myself credit for.
And if my story can remind even one young Black man out there that you can break out of the box society tries to put you in and become the best version of you, for you, then every mile was worth it.

We picked up so much trash—now the kids get to enjoy a cleaner, safer Chicago. Made me think back to when I was a kid, running around the park—it feels good to give that back to the next generation!
