Today my phone notified me that Hendrix would have been 14🤍

Hendrix found me in my early twenties, when I was very committed to the idea that I needed to go out into the world and find my purpose. I lived about 100 lives in my twenties, tried just about everything, and quite literally traveled to the end of the world (Tierra del Fuego) looking for it.

The irony of course, is that the whole time my purpose was right there beside me. I didn’t know it then, but so much of what I was looking for was taking shape in the life I was trying to create for him. I wanted Hendrix to have a life that was big and exciting and interesting and fulfilling. I wanted him to really experience life. And eventually, all of that became The Fetch Club.

All these years later, hundreds of Chicago dogs have walked through our doors and gotten to live some version of the life I wanted for Hendrix. Their days are intentionally built around the things he taught me mattered. To do more than keep dogs safe, busy, and loved, but to give them lives where they can actually flourish.

Most of our members will never know, but they live inside his legacy every single week.

So happy 14th heavenly birthday, Hen dawg— we miss you all the way to Tierra del Fuego and back. Turn out I really didn’t have to look that far 🤍

HUMAN ENGAGEMENT is the foundation of training, and at The Fetch Club, it’s the backbone of our entire day.

We aren’t standing on the sidelines refereeing a group of dogs. From 7 AM to 6 PM, we’re communicating, guiding, reinforcing, redirecting, playing, moving and making decisions alongside them.

For that relationship to work, our dogs need to be present enough to think and connected enough to listen. They can take in what’s happening around them without getting lost in it, make thoughtful decisions, and look to us when they need direction.

That’s why we put so much into engagement. It’s more than attention and it’s more than responding to a cue. It’s communication, relationship and trust, and trust is what gives us the ability to lead.
