We are gearing up for our first 2021 hackathon, but don't worry if you can't join our next virtual event because we will have several sprints throughout the winter months. So if you want to build your coding skills, build with us at Plate Beacon and let's do some good around here!

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who gave us some hype and liked our submission during the Winter Dining Challenge. It was a good way for PB to give itself a subtle intro to the City of Chicago and Illinois Restaurant Association. This contest was actually a design challenge. The winners were designs for heated modules to be placed outside on sidewalks during the winter months so that people could still eat outside (yes, i know, during the winter months in the midwest). Such solutions might be too expensive for small independent restaurants to execute. This is something we have taken into account at Plate Beacon when making our pivots. Stay tuned...😉

Winter Design Challenge a Hail Mary for Outdoor Dining Once the Cold Hits In a bid to keep restaurants open once cold weather hits, the city has launched a competition aimed at generating creative, yet feasible, ways to extend outdoor dining into Chicago’s winter.

Shout out to Chef Mychael Bonner, owner of Saranello's and Di Pescara Italian restaurants for doing a User Test on our app from the restaurant owner's perspective. All of your feedback and questions were helpful to our developers and business team. We thank you for your time!

We are weeks away from Northeastern Illinois University's first ever virtual hackathon to code the Plate Beacon app!

The hackathon has been rescheduled to AFTER final exams. Good luck, Golden Eagles, and then onwards--to submitting an amazing socially responsible app to Google!!
