Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley
Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was a former slave who was able to purchase her freedom in 1855 and became a successful seamstress, civil activist, and author in Washington, DC. Elizabeth Keckley published her memoir Behind the Scenes, or, Thirty Years a Slave, and Four Years in the White House (1868)

Madam C.J. Walker
Madam C.J. Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. She is recorded as the first female self-made millionaire in America in the Guinness Book of World Records. At the height of production, the Madame C.J. Walker Company employed over three thousand people, largely Black women who sold Walker’s products door-to-door.

Oprah Gail Winfrey is an American talk show host, television producer, actress, author, and philanthropist. She became a millionaire at the age of 32 when her talk show received national syndication.
