Ever wondered what it was like for the pioneers to cross the plains on the Oregon Trail? Now you can find out without leaving your neighborhood!
Join our virtual walking challenge and track your progress through the historic route. The further you go, the more history, information, and photos you unlock about important trail destinations.
How to Join:

- Select your route!
- East Wyoming Challenge: Virtually hike from Fort Laramie to Independence Rock (154 miles).
- West Wyoming Challenge: Virtually hike from South Pass to Fort Bridger (196 miles).
🏅 Free Registration & Medals:
Participation and finisher medals are free, but limited to the first 1,000 individuals or groups! To secure your medal, you must confirm and complete your selected route between May 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026.
Getting your steps in is easy: Pacer automatically syncs with Apple Health, Apple Watch, Google Fit, Samsung Health, Fitbit, and Garmin (or you can enter steps manually).
Cyclists and other athletes: There is a built-in conversion chart so your activity miles count toward the trail, too!

While standard day-use fees apply for park entry at Guernsey State Park and Seminoe State Park ($7 per vehicle for Wyoming residents and $12 per vehicle for non-residents) and general admission applies at South Pass City State Historic Site ($4 for Wyoming residents, $8 for non-residents, with free admission for kids 17 & under) the Tunes on the Trail events are free to attend. Entry to Hot Springs State Park is always free. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and explore the park to make the most of their visit.
This program is proudly presented in partnership with the Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming State Parks and the Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation.

The Artist in Residence program is a partnership between Wyoming State Parks and the Wyoming Arts Council. This year, in conjunction with the 250th commemoration, the program has expanded to include 19 artists across nine parks and historic sites supported in part by a grant from the Governor’s Semiquincentennial Task Force.

Library patrons in every county of Wyoming can visit their local library to "check out" Wyoming State Parks!
Day-use passes are available at many branches across the state to check out for exploring a new park or visiting a historic site you've always wanted to see. Kids' backpacks with outdoor supplies are also available to check out at select libraries.

In honor of Memorial Day, May 25, we are waiving day-use fees at all of our state parks and historic sites for members of the armed forces, past and present.
Through our Parks for Patriots program, day-use fees for Wyoming state parks and historic sites are also waived for members of the armed forces and veterans on Flag Day (June 14) and Veterans Day (November 11).
On Patriot Day (September 11), day-use fees are waived for first responders.

On Saturday, June 6, we will waive day-use fees at all parks, historic sites, and recreational areas that offer fishing and river access, in conjunction with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department annual Free Fishing Day.
