Our thoughts are with the Larimer County community as they grieve this sudden and tragic loss. We extend our deepest and most sincere sympathies to our fellow law enforcement officers, and the families and friends of all three riders.

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ve got it from here.

The Wyoming Brewers Festival is back on tap this weekend, and your Cheyenne Police Department got an early look at the menu. Here is our flight of recommendations:

• "Leave the Keys" Lager – A crisp reminder that if you've been drinking, don't drive.
• “Malt-ernative Transportation” Märzen – A smooth, free, trolley ride home provided by Visit Cheyenne and the Wyoming Brewers Festival.
• “Don't Disappoint Your Dad” Draft – A steady, well-rounded choice that Dad would be proud of this Father’s Day weekend. Save yourself the headache in the morning.
• “High Visibility” Hefeweizen – Crisp and attention-grabbing - just like our extra patrols watching for impaired drivers.

*Brewer’s Note: Good beverages pair best with good planning - catch complimentary trolleys on the west side of Depot Plaza:
• Friday: 8:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Our K9 teams recently put their training and skills to the test during a competition at F. E. Warren Air Force Base.

Officer Koeppel and K9 U*i, Officer Vapenik and K9 Rogue, and Officer Tait and K9 Zeke worked through a series of challenging scenarios in narcotics detection and patrol work.

At the end of the event, K9 Zeke was recognized as the Top Narcotics Dog, K9 U*i earned Top Patrol Dog honors, and the CPD's K9 Unit was named the Overall Best Agency.

The event was held on the final day of Police Week in celebration of first responders - with both 2 and 4 legs 🐾

As electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles become more popular in Cheyenne, we're seeing an increase in younger riders using them on city streets and sidewalks. While these vehicles can be fun, operating them in areas where they aren't permitted can create serious legal and safety concerns.

E-motos do not have pedals and are considered motorcycles under Wyoming State Statute. They are not allowed on sidewalks and cannot be used on public roadways without registration, insurance, and a licensed driver.

The graphic below outlines where you can ride e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos in our community.

Regulations may vary from one city to another - the information shared here reflects the laws and ordinances currently in effect in Cheyenne. If updates are made, we will continue to share them with the public.

These laws are in place to protect everyone - riders, drivers, and pedestrians. Misuse of e-motos, especially by underage drivers, can lead to tragic consequences. Please stay informed, ride legally, and help us keep Cheyenne safe.

For those interested in reviewing the applicable laws:
- Wyoming State Statute 31-1-101( # # ) defines an electric bicycle (e-bike), 31-1-101(E) defines a motorcycle, and 31-1-101(K)(II) defines an off-road recreational vehicle.
- Wyoming State Statutes 31-5-701 through 31-5-707 establish the rules for operating bicycles and electric bicycles on roadways, while 31-5-1601 addresses the operation of off-road recreational vehicles on public roads, streets, and highways.
