We had a surprise visitor this morning!

This Cecropia moth is a bit early for the season, as we are not open yet, but we hope to have a more concrete opening date here very soon!

In the meantime, here are some cool facts about this particular moth species:

- They emerge in the Spring to breed.
- Adult moths, like the one pictured here, only live 5-14 days.
- Because they have such a short adult lifespan, they do not have mouths, and cannot eat.
- They are North American's largest native moth.
- They are typically nocturnal.

TODAY is OPENING DAY 2026 for our sister site, the Historic Governors' Mansion of Wyoming!

The Summer Season for the Mansion officially begins today (April 1, 2026), and it runs through the end of September. During this time, the Mansion will be FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Look out for this blue sign on the front steps as an easy way to tell when the Mansion is open. 🤩

The first and former Executive Home of Wyoming was enjoyed by 19 First Families between 1904 to 1976. Then in 2004, when the Mansion turned 100 years old, it received the time-hopping renovation visitors presently enjoy! Between the free admission and having seven decades under one roof, this historic site may hold "the cheapest form of time travel." 😄 And rest assured that the nuclear history of Cheyenne touches this site, too, with the example Fallout Shelter the Hickey family created in the 1950s for Cheyenne locals to replicate in their own homes.

Q01's Summer Season will begin in early May, and it will also run through the end of September. So keep an eye on this page for our Opening Day announcement! If you have any questions in the mean time, please call us at our sister site at (307) 777-7878.

Whether it be at the or at , we can't wait to see you this peak season!

Howdy from snowy (and windy) Wyoming! While we're still closed for the off season, we wanted to share this wintery view of . Unless you were stationed at Quebec 01 during the wintertime (which is the hardest time of year for these MAF sites), you may not consider this view of our site!

Our southeastern corner of Wyoming has been incredibly warm during this off season, so this view feels special for Q01 staff, too! It has been more like "Winder" than Winter, with so many days of warm temperatures and strong winds. Thursday (March 12, 2026) has been named by locals as "The Wind-pocalypse," with the area between Q01 and Chugwater, WY receiving some of the strongest windspeeds of the day: upwards of 130 mph! Staff checked on the site the next day, and we're glad to report that Q01 received very little damage. It goes to show how sturdy these MAF sites have to be, especially with 60+ years of enduring such wild weather on the High Plains!

Q01's summer season will begin in May, and run through the end of September. So keep an eye on this page for our Opening Day announcement! We can't wait to see you in just a couple months!

If you have any questions in the mean time, please call us at our sister site: the Historic Governors' Mansion of Wyoming at (307) 777-7878. The summer season begins in April, and is free to visit during their Wednesday-Saturday open hours!

Among this off-season, we hope Wyoming's beautiful October weather is treating everyone well! 🍁😉🍁 There are perks to the off-season, including finally being able to share the newest addition to our site's outdoor display: Quebec 01's National Historic Landmark plaque!

Do not be confused by the sign's "Launch Control Facility" word choice! Also known as a LCF, this descriptor hearkens to the original, 1960s terminology used for this type of military site. Additionally, do not let the plaque's year throw you off! Quebec 01 State Historic Site was awarded this NHL title in December 2023, but we were unable to celebrate it (let alone showcase it) until this August.

It is an incredible honor to be included as one of the 28 NHL sites for the state of Wyoming. The list is almost evenly split between natural locations and manmade buildings, and you can view it here: https://loom.ly/kZRz4Fk.

Since the Peacekeeper missile system was ONLY stationed in southeastern Wyoming for the brief 19 years the USAF utilized it, we think is a worthy and marvelous addition to the list that commemorates places of America's history. And we hope, on your next Q01 visit, you will enjoy the sight of this NHL plaque as much as we do!
