Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. During this month, we will be spotlighting some of our own officers who have Hispanic Heritage.
Today we spotlight Officer Brandon Rios. Officer Rios's mother is from Arecibo, Puerto Rico and his father from Mayaquez, Puerto Rico. Officer Rios was hired in January 2019 and soon completed the police academy that June. Prior to his employment with our department, Officer Rios served for the US Navy.
Officer Rios is an asset to our department in many ways. Not only does he speak both English and Spanish, he is kind and empathetic and treats everyone fairly. He is also known to cook delicious Puerto Rican cuisine for his co-workers!

Tribute the Brothers in Blue and all first responders 🙏
On the 20th anniversary of the attacks on our homeland, we remember those lives that were lost.
Although this may not be directly associated to 9/11, we would like to make it known that we have our own memorial monument at the Law Enforcement Center, paying homage to those law enforcement officers that have lost their lives in the line of duty within Midland County. This also provides us an opportunity to remember the 72 brothers & sisters in blue that died, trying to save the countless victims from Twin Towers and flight 93.
The events of 9/11/01 have impacted the lives of all Americans, especially to those lives that were lost on that fateful day. We as law enforcement officers understand that these types of things can happen at any moment, yet it does not prevent us from protecting you to the best of our ability.
Recently, the monument received a new plaque on the face of it, identifying all law enforcement agencies serving Midland County.
Photographed from left to right: Coleman Police Chief Richard Ward, Midland County Sheriff Myron Greene, Midland Police Chief Nicole Ford and Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Todd Parsons.
