‼️ CALL TO ACTION CHEYENNE ‼️
Sadly children in our community are still being injured walking to and from school. Not going to speak on any matters recently but be aware that we do have solutions not being discussed or utilized.
This has been a very long, hard road (almost 4years now) of trying to create the change we need to protect our children who have to walk to and from school.
There has been much resistance from LCSD #1 on creating a crossing guard program, which seems like the most sensible and cost effective solution.
It takes volunteers as well as school staff.
Crosswalk supervision is better than any lights or signs as crossing guards can see drivers who may be distracted or speeding.
Earlier this year legislators passed SF 210 unanimously which removes liability from anyone who is a crossing guard helping students across the state!
This came about because of LCSD #1 not wanting to have a program because they stated “liability” was the reason. To that comment I say it would be more of a liability to allow children to walk across busy streets unsupervised. When does the madness and hypocrisy end?
I have said from the start, we need changes to infrastructure, education for children and drivers, strict school zone enforcement and crossing guards.
If all of these things are utilized we have significantly reduced the overall occurrence of injury or death to a child.
I’ve felt a great deal of support from the community through fundraising efforts and all of your sponsorships, volunteering and support. I cant thank you enough for this. ForMak couldn’t do it without you. I personally couldn’t do it without you, I really mean it when I say you will never know how your love and support had given me purpose and lifted me up.
We are working closely with the city on new infrastructure projects but that level of planning takes time. You will be hearing an update of these projects very soon, I promise. Just getting details hashed out.
It’s not enough though. I cannot speak alone to LCSD #1. They AREN’T listening to me.
I NEED the help of the community.
I need you to speak up! Every voice matters. Send a LETTER, an EMAIL, make a PHONE call or COMMENT in this post…they are watching…they will see it.
Show up to the school board meetings. Remember all of this when its time to vote!! This is our community and large amount of our taxpayer dollars go to the schools. Why are they avoiding crossing guards now you might ask? The excuse this time is LCSD #1 says they are short staffed. First liability, now staffing issue….excuses are sounding like what they are, excuses. Your children are PRICELESS. We need to DEMAND the change. I can’t do it alone parents. My voice isn’t loud enough.
I am viewed as an angry, grieving mother.
That might be partially true but I also still have some fight in me and I will die on this hill if it means no one else has to go through this. NO CHILD SHOULD BE HURT OR KILLED WALKING TO OR FROM SCHOOL.
I lost not only my son Mak, which is completely devastating in and of itself, but who I was before Nov 5, 2021.
The trauma, insomnia, the tears I cry daily as I suffer quietly and alone…it’s a heartbreak that no one can begin to understand unless you’ve lost a child. Part of me died with my son while I held him as his soul left his body. I still see those last moments clearly. I will never escape my own reality.
It doesn’t have to be yours.
When you lose a child, that level of grief takes you to some very dark places. It didnt affect just me, it affected our whole family, his friends, and it rippled throughout the community.
There is no holiday, birthday, anniversary, occasion or common day that will ever feel as special as it once was when Mak was here with all his smiles and his sweet spirit. Imagine scars so deep that living without your child is terrifying. I chose to fight the darkness with a plan to use my pain to prevent others from the devastation of losing a child. My grief journey is mine alone but ForMak is a team and community effort. This includes the the city, law enforcement and the school districts. This includes you!
Please, if you are a parent, guardian or if you have children you love and care about please use your voices.
We have more power in numbers. Be well and hug your children ❤️❤️
