This is the trap most business owners get stuck in.
Monday through Thursday you’re heads down on the work — the thing you actually do. Friday hits and the back office is a mess, so you spend Friday cleaning it up. Next week, the work falls behind.

The trade-off is fake.

You shouldn’t have to choose between your work and your week. That choice only exists because most owners are running their own technology, bookkeeping, marketing, and admin on top of whatever they’re actually good at.
startWorks is the third lane.
We run the operational foundation — technology, financial management, marketing support, office admin — so the back office isn’t a Friday emergency. It’s just handled.

Think of it as a startup in a box: the same kind of operational systems larger companies rely on, packaged for small businesses. Ready to use, without a custom build or an agency contract.
Link in bio if you’re tired of choosing between the work and the back office.
When does the back office usually catch up with you?

What does support look like for you right now?
For most small business owners, support means doing it all yourself. Running the tech, keeping the books, handling the marketing, managing the admin, on top of the actual work your business exists for.

startWorks is a turnkey operational foundation for your business. The technology, financial, and administrative systems most small businesses need, already set up and ready to use. You stop being the de facto IT person and bookkeeper, and go back to running your business.

This works across industries. Service businesses, trades, creative practices, farms, anyone running their own operation who needs solid systems without an internal team to manage them.

Tell us in the comments: what does support look like for you right now? A word, a sentence, a vent. We read every reply.

Patrick built his first chair at 13. That was 35 years ago, and today he’s a Master Upholsterer running FYBR Arts Reupholstery, a Pennsylvania studio devoted to giving worn furniture a second life.

The work is slow on purpose. Pieces arrive with frames that need rebuilding and springs that need re-tying by hand. Patrick strips them down, repairs what’s structural, and redresses them in fabrics he chooses with as much care as the heirloom underneath. He sources materials with the environment in mind, using methods that predate the throwaway furniture industry by a century.

Outside the workshop, Patrick is a Reiki Master, which feels of a piece with how he works.
The business owners we support at startWorks share something in common: real respect for the work itself. Patrick is one of them.

What’s something in your home with a story worth keeping?

The most important part of building something sustainable isn’t what you do.
It’s how you decide what not to do.

Every business owner we work with who has found real traction — not just a busy season, actual momentum — got there by getting clear on what they were going to stop carrying. The extra service that drained them. The client that cost more than they paid. The system they kept meaning to fix but worked around instead.

That clarity doesn’t come from working harder. It comes from having enough support around you that you can actually see the full picture.
That’s what we’re thinking about this month. Not just who builds sustainable businesses — but how they think when they’re building them.

What’s one thing you’ve had to let go of to move forward in your business? Drop it in the comments.

You didn’t fall behind—tech just sped up.
You finally got the hang of email… then it changed.
Your phone made sense… then came the update.
And somehow your TV now needs four remotes just to watch one show.
That’s where homeIT comes in.
We bring patient, in-home tech support right to you—helping with phones, smart TVs, WiFi, email, and more. We’ll fix what’s frustrating and show you how it works in plain, everyday language.
No jargon. No pressure. Just real support from a local small business that actually cares.

If you had a booth at Painted Tree, this one’s for you.
April 14th. One email. Ten days to pull your inventory. Rent already paid, deposits likely gone, and a customer base you’d spent months building — tied to a location that’s now closed.
A lot of vendors are figuring out what comes next right now. Some are looking for a new space. Some are taking a breath first. Both are reasonable.
startWorks works with small business owners at this stage — not the polished version, the actual one. If you want to talk through what rebuilding looks like for your business specifically, link in bio. No pressure, just a real conversation.
If you know someone who was a vendor, share this. They may not have seen it yet.
Drop a 🌿 in the comments if you were at Painted Tree. We’re paying attention.

If you had a booth at Painted Tree, you woke up last week to an email that changed everything.
Ten days to get your inventory. Rent you’ll probably never see back. A storefront you’d been building — sometimes for years — just gone.

A lot of people are still figuring out what to do next. Whether that’s moving online, finding another market, or just catching your breath first. All of that is a reasonable place to be right now.

exists for this part of running a small business. The part that doesn’t make the highlight reel. If you want to talk through what comes next — what your options actually look like, what systems might hold up better going forward — we’re available for that conversation, no pitch attached.

Drop a 🌿 in the comments if you were a vendor. We’d like to know how you’re doing.
