Noticed green scum or murky water in your neighborhood pond lately? It's likely algae — and while it's naturally occurring, excess nutrients can make it worse. The good news: what you do in your yard makes a difference. Here's how to help:

🌿 Keep leaves and grass clippings out of storm drains
🌿 Limit fertilizer use on your lawn
🌿 Don't feed the geese (yes, really — they produce 3 lbs of waste per day!)
🌿 Pick up pet waste - even in your own backyard!
🌿 Plant native buffers along the water's edge

A big thank you from the students at Diamond Springs Elementary School! 💚

With support from an askHRgreen Environmental Education Mini Grant, students created a vegetable garden where they can learn firsthand about sustainability, environmental stewardship, and where food comes from. We're excited to see the garden—and these young gardeners—continue to grow.
