How do you approach God? Many of us treat prayer like inserting coins into a vending machine, we put in our requests and expect our desired outcomes. But there's a profound difference between wanting Jesus for what he can do versus wanting him for who he is. Spiritual maturity isn't measured by how many prayers get answered the way we want, but by whether we would still be satisfied if Jesus was all we had. This challenges us to examine our motives. Are we following Christ because life is easier with him, or because we genuinely love him? The disciples didn't follow Jesus because he made their lives comfortable. Often, following him made things harder. They followed because they recognized his worth. When Jesus becomes our reward rather than just our pathway to other rewards, we discover a relationship that satisfies our deepest longings.

Who do I have in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. - Psalm 73:25

In a world that measures success by bank accounts and possessions, we often miss the most valuable inheritance available to us. King David understood something revolutionary, that God himself is our portion and inheritance. Unlike earthly treasures that rust, decay, or can be stolen, our inheritance in Christ is eternal and unshakeable. When the Levites received no land in Israel, it wasn't a punishment, it was a privilege. They received something far greater than territory: they received God as their inheritance. Today, we have that same incredible opportunity. Jesus isn't just a means to get what we want; he is what we want. When we truly grasp this truth, it changes everything about how we approach life, prayer, and our relationship with God. Our security doesn't come from what we own, but from who owns us.

Psalm 16:5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.
