*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
Collision Causes Hazardous Fuel Spill, Road Closures on Eastern Avenue
June 23, 2026

Chelsea, MA —On June 23, 2026, at approximately 5AM, Chelsea Police received a call for a motor vehicle accident in the area of 256 Eastern Avenue. Accident involved a fuel truck and a sedan.

Responding officers discovered a black Honda sedan trapped underneath the fuel truck. The two passengers, who suffered minor injuries were able to exit the vehicle on their own. Fuel truck driver did not report any injuries on scene. Occupants of the sedan were then sent to the hospital for further medical attention.

Fuel truck was carrying a full load of fuel and did spill some fuel onto the roadway creating a hazardous and potentially dangerous situation. All traffic on Eastern Avenue was temporarily shut down with nearby businesses evacuated until the scene was made safe by the Chelsea Fire Department and the Mass State Police Truck Team. One lane was later opened to alleviate traffic.

Chief Keith E. Houghton “All parties involved were extremely lucky and I am thankful they will be ok. Officers on scene working along with the Chelsea Fire Dept. and the Mass State Police did a phenomenal job handling the situation and preventing any further danger to the other commuters. A further investigation will be done to determine if any violations were committed.”

🐾 Hi, I’m Lost — Can You Help Me Get Home? 🐾

Hi everyone, I’m a friendly male dog who was found this morning at approximately 0900 hours near the intersection of Webster Avenue and Broadway by one of Chelsea’s local firefighters.

I’m currently safe and hanging out with the Chelsea Police Department while they help me find my family.

I’m a medium-sized, stocky male dog with a dark brindle coat, a short tail, and a big happy face. I appear to be a bulldog/bully-type mix, but I’m hoping my humans recognize me right away.

If you know who I belong to, or have any information that can help get me home, please contact the Chelsea Police Department at 617-466-4800.

Thanks for sharing and helping me find my way back home. 💙🐶

Today, the Chelsea Police Department joins our community in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that marks a defining moment in American history.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, justice, and the ongoing work of building a more equal society.

As we reflect on the importance of this day, we honor Black history, culture, strength, and the many contributions of Black Americans here in Chelsea and across the nation.

Community members are invited to attend the Juneteenth Food & Music Festival hosted by Chelsea Black Community, in partnership with the City of Chelsea, today from 12 PM to 5 PM at Washington Park, 368 Washington Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
