Meet Blake Austin, PMP, our Project Manager at HAGLER Process!

Blake's path to industrial project management actually started in sports. After earning a degree in Sport Management and spending seven years managing a nationwide sporting goods retail store, he transitioned into industrial sales when he joined HAGLER 12 years ago. Since then, he's worn many hats, from Inside Sales and Application Engineering to administrative support and beyond. As Blake puts it, his journey has been "anything but a straight line," but each role gave him a new perspective and helped prepare him for where he is today.

One lesson that has stayed with Blake throughout his career is that relationships matter. The strongest partnerships are built on trust, and that remains at the center of lasting success. What Blake enjoys most about project management is the complexity. He thrives on bringing order to projects with dozens of moving parts, from vendors and timelines to technical requirements and customer expectations. For him, the most rewarding projects are not always the easiest ones. They are the ones where challenges arise and the team finds a way to deliver anyway.

After more than a decade at HAGLER, one of Blake's favorite parts of the journey has been watching the company and its people grow. Seeing team members gain confidence, take on new responsibilities, and develop into leaders has been especially rewarding.

Outside of work, Blake's favorite place to be is with his wife and kids, especially on the lake or hiking somewhere new during the summer months. In his free time, you'll likely find him listening to a history podcast, watching a science documentary, or exploring the latest technology and gadgets. If there's something new to learn, chances are Blake is already reading about it!

We're grateful for Blake's leadership, adaptability, and dedication to our customers. His willingness to embrace new challenges, continue learning, and find solutions when things get complicated has made a lasting impact on HAGLER and the customers we serve. Thanks Blake for all you do!

Authorized Service Center | 🐬 Aquarium Project Spotlight: Fybroc 1500 Pump Restoration

When a local aquarium experienced issues with a critical Fybroc 1500 fiberglass pump, our team stepped in to help restore reliable operation. During teardown and inspection, our technicians identified a leaking rear lip seal, loose mechanical seal set screws, and bearing-related concerns that warranted a complete evaluation and repair. Following restoration, the pump was returned to service and ready to support the aquarium's critical water circulation system once again.

Fybroc pumps are engineered for corrosive environments and are known for their fiberglass-reinforced construction, reliability, and long service life, making them an excellent fit for demanding applications like this one. As an Authorized Service Center (ASC) partner with Tusk Industrial, we're proud to support customers with repair, restoration, and service solutions for equipment operating in unique and challenging environments.

If you're experiencing reliability or performance issues with your rotating equipment, contact our team. We'd be happy to evaluate your equipment, identify the root cause of the problem, and help determine the best solution for your application.

How do you determine the exact bolt-hole clocking of a field-fit fl**ge when you're not allowed to remove the equipment, or even the studs and nuts?

That was the challenge our team recently faced at a nuclear facility.

Our client needed the precise orientation ("clocking") of two welded slip-on fl**ges located on a large TEE-shaped heat exchanger head. Because the equipment was in service at a nuclear site, the exchanger heads could not be removed, and the fl**ge studs and nuts were required to remain installed throughout the project.

To solve this challenge, our metrology team captured highly accurate scan data using our ZEISS T-SCAN HAWK 2 directly in the field and reverse engineered the results into detailed 3D CAD models.

The complexity came from determining the bolt-hole centerlines without direct access to the bolt holes themselves. Using the scanned geometry of the installed studs and nuts, our engineering team:

βœ” Captured high-resolution field scan data of the exchanger head and fl**ge assemblies

βœ” Created accurate 3D reverse-engineered CAD models from the scan data

βœ” Performed multiple cross-sectional analyses through the nut geometry

βœ” Determined individual nut center points and generated a best-fit bolt circle

βœ” Calculated the exact bolt-hole clocking pattern and fl**ge orientation

βœ” Validated the final model through scan-to-CAD deviation analysis

The result was a highly accurate digital representation of the installed equipment, allowing the client to move forward with confidence, without removing critical components or disrupting operations.

We recently hosted a lunch and learn on energetics and explosive duty pump applications, where we discussed why standard design rules do not always apply and why mitigating risk is critical.

In these environments, we often recommend the Wilfley A9 Chemical Pump with specific engineered modifications as a strong option for severe duty conditions, supported by thoughtful system design. Wilfley specializes in highly modified and custom pump designs for high risk services.

That is where the right pump, application experience, and maintenance partner make all the difference.

As a distributor of Wilfley pumps, we work closely with teams to apply the right solutions for these critical environments, always keeping safety and reliability a top priority.
