Let's send another shout out to civil engineer and project manager, Elizabeth Goss, (holding paper) for letting us tag along and visit the equalization tanks near Brown Acres Golf course. Both tanks are 240 feet in diameter and provide storage capacity of up to 15 million gallons each of excess wastewater during significant rain events. This structure diverts excess wastewater, not flood water, from existing buried sewer system pipeline when excess wastewater otherwise overflows into local waterways.

Shout out to Dennis Malone, Assistant City Engineer, and Elizabeth Goss, Civil Engineer and Project Manager, for their contribution to the new $45 million Kanasita Equalization Basin and Pump Station Project. Residents of the Hixson area will see reduced sanitary sewer overflows before they reach roads, neighborhoods, and waterways. Thank you Dennis and Elizabeth for your work.
Recycle Coordinator, Liz Livergood, was a hit with the students of Hardy Elementary School this past school year. Hardy was one of the first schools to benefit from recycling education program and continue to do an excellent job in supporting their student's participation in green initiatives.

We recently got a behind-the-scenes look at the Tennessee American Water Company, and let's just say- the science, dedication, and sheer scale of what they do is impressive!
They explained the rigorous testing and high-tech filtration processes used to provide water our region uses everyday. A huge thank you to the team at Tennessee American for opening their doors, sharing their expertise, and reminding us why we can never take clean water for granted.

Fantastic work, and thanks to Caroline Johnson, Jerramy Wood, and Cherie Watkins-Thompson for representing the department in a recent interview with Dane Wurmlinger of Channel 9. The work that goes into the Veterans Bridge Flag memorial program is covered in the story. Jerramy, a distinguished Army veteran with several tours under his belt, discussed the program's significance. In 2014, Caroline launched the program, and with Cherie's assistance, it continues to provide residents like Lotus Chaney (far left) with the chance to recognize her brother.
