Angel was abandoned at the front door of HES while in active labor. This poor kitty, only 6 months old, was just a baby herself - a sad but common occurrence for unfixed animals, especially during the peak of breeding season in the spring and summer months.
Angel was immediately seen by our vet team, where she delivered just one single kitten. Sadly, he was born premature, weighing only half of what he should, and passed on his own just hours later.
Angel is still recovering from her ordeal in our medical wing. A cat that is pregnant and still a kitten herself faces significant risks because she is not fully developed both physically and mentally. Angel is underweight and her little body is still growing - she wasn't ready to be a mother, and frankly, she should never have to be.
Cat overpopulation is rampant in our local community and in the nation as a whole. Cats can begin to reproduce as early as 4 months old (the young ones like Angel ending up in similar situations, or worse). If she had been spayed at the proper age, her suffering and that of her kitten could have been avoided.
Spay and neuter is the answer! There are many low-cost spay/neuter clinics in our local area, including HES! Visit heschatt.org/spayandneuter for pricing, scheduling and more.
TNR is also a valuable community resource to help control the population of community or feral cats. Visit heschatt.org/tnr for info! TNR is a FREE program for HES jurisdiction residents!
Angel is doing well in her recovery, and we hope to have her SPAYED and available for adoption soon!

Happy Caturday! This is Zelda. This sweet girl is a 6 year old tabby who loves snuggles! Zelda would do best in a low-energy home as an only pet. She spends most of her days curled up next to her foster, or sunbathing in the window. While she is very calm and enjoys snoozing most of the day, you can find her playing with toys and getting the zoomies right before bed.
Zelda loves naps, getting pet, and calm environments (unless SHE'S the one wreaking havoc 😆) If you have a home that suites her needs, we encourage you to fill out an adoption application and we'll contact you to set up a time to meet Zelda and her foster at HES!

Unusual donation request: pet-safe insecticide!
We've got biting ants on our walking trails and our poor pups are getting eating up 😭 If anyone is able to donate any Diatomaceous Earth (or similar) crawling insect pest control (MUST BE PET SAFE!) until we can find a permanent solution that will work for us, our dogs and our dog-walking volunteers would greatly appreciate it!
We will update this post if and when we get a donation.

Shari's Incredible Journey began when she was brought to HES as a pregnant stray. She was extremely timid, seemed painful, and her distress was worsening by the hour. Our vet team took action, and sadly, found that her puppies were not viable. Shari was in septic shock, and without intervention, she would have died.
The pups were removed and Shari was spayed. Her vitals immediately improved, and within 24 hours, she was brighter, more active, and overall HAPPIER. Shari spent time in foster care while she recovered, and when she was ready, she was adopted.
Shari’s story is one that could have ended in tragedy, but we are able to share her happy ending to her Incredible Journey thanks to the diligence and love that was shown to her by many helping hands throughout her time in HES care.
THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY begins the moment animals enter our shelter. They receive targeted care for their individual needs until they find their forever homes. Save a life today! Give now at tinyurl.com/SharisIncredibleJourney
