Shout-out to this great team from Thalhimer for volunteering with us to assemble a new play structure at a local childcare center! π They put in quite a few hours of their time to build it the right way β sturdy, safe, and loaded up with features that will make it lots of fun to play on. π οΈ We're so grateful to these volunteers for building a new and exciting structure that will spark many hours of play and imagination for the kids at Allkidz Christian Childcare! πβ¨

Join BGF for a volunteer day to give back in honor of Juneteenth! π€ On Friday, June 19th, we'll be partnering with the CHS Urban Farming - Charlottesville High School program to help maintain the various wooden structures around the farm. π§° π± We'll be applying a coat of stain to everything from raised garden beds to fencing to an accessible walkway.
All are welcome to come out for this day of service in support of the Urban Farming program, which provides an opportunity for local students to grow food for our community while developing business and marketing skills as they manage the farm. π¨π₯¬

Many thanks to Fortress Foundation Solutions for uplifting BGF β literally! π We'd noticed that the concrete slab at the front of the BGF office was sinking, but fortunately for us, the folks at Fortress made a quick and effective fix by injecting material below the surface to raise the slab back up to the perfect level. We take pride in our building, and we're grateful to Fortress for helping us keep it in tip-top shape! π’π

On Memorial Day, we honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. The BGF office is closed today, and we wish everyone a day with time to reflect, remember, and give thanks for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

We're honored to have received a 2026 Golden Hammer award from our partners at Piedmont Habitat for Humanity! π¨βοΈ It's a privilege to be able to offer our support to them and to receive their support in return β after all, we're both working toward a vision where everyone has the homes and buildings they need to thrive. π€ We're proud to share a dedication to building safe, decent, and affordable housing here in central Virginia! ποΈ

We're putting out the call for volunteers who can lend a helping hand at a BGF home repair project tomorrow! π£ π€ This home in Stanardsville was recently damaged in a fire, and our restoration and repair process is already well underway. π οΈ Tomorrow, we have a lead volunteer installing new insulation, and she could use a few helpers β no experience necessary!
Work begins at 9:30 AM, and assistance would be welcome at any time. β°οΈ Please send an email to the address in the graphic if you're available to help push this project forward so that the family can return to a safe, beautiful home! π οΈ

Well, we've been watching the weather forecast, and it's not looking great. βοΈ We've made the tough decision to cancel our BGF Project Spotlight at Camp Holiday Trails that we had planned for tomorrow, Thursday, May 21 because of the high likelihood of storms.π§β‘οΈ
We were excited to share about all the great projects we've done with our partners at Camp over the years, but it'll be best if everyone stays safe and dry. ποΈ We hope to see you at another BGF event sometime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for the next opportunity to connect! π

After all the excitement of pouring the elevated concrete slab for our preschool project with Puerta Abierta AtitlΓ‘n, we haven't slowed down. π« As a matter of fact, we're now working on the construction of the second floor! πͺ Our masons have been placing concrete block to build the walls, tying rebar for columns, and working on the bond beams β all tasks that are essential to a solid structure.π¨βοΈ
We're proud to have a team that's so dedicated to working hard and striving to meet the next milestones for this project, and we'll keep cheering them on as this preschool continues to progress! π

Last week, a group of new-to-BGF volunteers traveled to Santiago AtitlΓ‘n to help us pour the elevated concrete slab at the preschool we're building with Puerta Abierta AtitlΓ‘n. π« One of these volunteers, a woman named Cheryl, shared about her experience volunteering with BGF and all the surprises, learning experiences, and joys she found during her time in Guatemala. β¨ποΈ Read about Cheryl and the BGF volunteer experience on our blog: https://www.buildinggoodness.org/bgf-blog/cheryls-volunteer-experience
