As a child, I used to vacation at the Jersey shore. At the beginning of my trip my Dad would hand me a five dollar bill. I would run straight to the candy store!

I felt this sense of freedom and pure joy. I usually would buy the candy dots on the white strips of paper, bubble gum, and the biggest gobstopper I could find.

I worked on that gobstopper over the course of our two week trip and never really made any progress other than turning my tongue raw and attracting ants upstairs to the cousin’s sleeping loft. Only to then be forced to throw away my gobstopper. But, I would be sneaky and just hide it in a different corner so I could indulge in it a little bit longer.

“Leslie’s Lollipop Shop” is a nostalgic reminder of the times I spent with my father at the Jersey shore. This painting makes me feel the lightness of being of a child, with little worries and bundles of excitement.
