Did you know red foods at Juneteenth aren't just tradition, they're symbolic? 🍽️
Red velvet cake, watermelon, hibiscus tea, red beans and rice all carry the same meaning: the bloodshed and resilience of enslaved people, and the strength it took to build something new in freedom. 🖤❤️💚

Fried chicken became a path to economic independence for Black women in the years after emancipation. Black-eyed peas are paired with red rice as a "good fortune" tradition passed down for generations.

Every dish has a story. Food is never just food. It's history, craft, and a pathway forward, and on Juneteenth, we celebrate the cooks who kept it alive. 🙌🏾

Last night's Pop-Up Dinner was a huge success and the food? Possibly the best yet! 😋

That meal was the result of six weeks of hard work, late nights, and a cohort of people who refused to settle for anything less than their best. Every dish told a story. And now it's time for the next chapter.

🎓 These incredible individuals are graduating from GO Cook RVA this Thursday, and we want you in that room. This program exists for the people who are ready to build something real for themselves, those who just needed the right door to open.
